I purchased this to use with my laptop for work. I haven't watched any videos on it, nor do I game. This is a pretty great monitor/display with crisp lines at a high resolution, however, the screen doesn't get very bright. It's great that it comes with a cover/stand but it can periodically slip out of the shallow grooves the screen rests in. It works with a Macbook Pro 15" that's 1.5 yrs old and a multi year old tiny Macbook Air. Overall, for the price (about $100), I think it's worth it and a good item. I recommend it for people who are not video/visual geeks who mostly need it to extend their desktop area for work. usb c - c cable powers it up without external power. Brightness and volume can be set as 100% without external power though the manual says 80% and more needs 5V 2.4A and more power supply. The external power supply doesn't seem to make the sound louder but does the screen brighter a bit. While it's on, unplugging the charger from the monitor turns it off even though the usb c - c is connected, and then comes back on. It's turned off and on well while the surface goes to sleep or wakes up. 100% volume sounds like around 30% on the surface. The sound quality is poor. The headphone jack works well and compensates for its missing on the surface pro 9. There is no quick button for the mute, so it must be found in the monitor setting or the sound icon on the source device. On the manual the speakers are 1W and the brightness is 300 cd/m2 (it looks dimmer than that). The screen is not glossy, but its resolution looks a bit lower than a normal 15.6 inch FHD IPS LED laptop panel. The manual says it's an IPS panel (I don't think so), 16.7 M display color, 72% color gamut, and 6500K color temperature. The cover attaches through magnets not strong enough. It should be moved holding together with the monitor. The cover has magnets. The monitor has magnets on the back: two near the upper right/left edges, and one on the lower left side. So rotating the monitor 90 or 180 degrees doesn't seem to attach to the cover (the manual doesn't show these settings). -- Both this monitor and the Suface Pro 9 has USB C on the left side, so I tried 180 degrees. Good image, build quality , enough ports to connect to almost anything. Has a Vesa mount on the back. Being using it for a month, it fell down when I was installing it , it resisted well.

Before purchasing I had read reviews saying the stand was unreliable and they were right. It is sufficient at best and I wish there were a bit more sturdy / reliable as it easily collapses when trying to set it up. But overall, this is a great portable monitor and I have gotten a lot of use out of it. Clear picture, easy to setup, and really solid speakers. Its really convenient and versatile. I use this monitor with an HDMI splitter to preview video content for a projector screen while on the road, but its got loads of other uses thanks to the recently made ubiquitous USB-C video. I didn't realize just how many devices I already own that have a USB-C port and can be connected to this monitor. It's really neat! This device really needs a dedicated 5 volts 2 amp power source. The spec is not joking: a half amp or one amp brick won't work. I measured: at sleep it needs 0.2 amps. At 0% brightness, it needs 0.6 amps. At 40% brightness, it needs 1.03 amp. At 100% brightness, it needs 1.97 amps. The manufacturer says the monitor is supposed to reduce brightness when it detects that the power supply isn't strong enough, but my testing suggests this doesn't work reliably; the monitor will keep rebooting when the power supply isn't strong enough. You must have a dedicated 2 or 3 amp brick just for this monitor. You must have enough power to start the monitor at the last configured brightness in order to access the menu and reduce the brightness. This monitor also doesn't support USB Power Delivery. Trying to charge devices through the monitor is really flaky: At full brightness the monitor needs 5 volts 2 amps and 5 volts 3 amps is the maximum non-negotiated power on USB type-c. If you try charge anything substantial (a phone or laptop, >5 volts 1 amp) through the monitor, even if you have a large type-c power brick (e.g. 45+ watts), it's not going to work. It's best to power the laptop with a charger and power the monitor from the laptop. This can be a problem for power-greedy phones because you may not be able to disable charging through the monitor. The workaround is to turn the brightness down before plugging the phone in. Pay attention to which peripherals you connect with the usb-2.0 adapter as those can also brown-out the monitor. ... show more
