  • Awesome movie!
This is one of my top 10 movies. Had to wait a few weeks to receive but was worth it

  • The way it really is
Of all the movies I have watched on the topic of pool hustling this movie is the closest to the way it is (or at least the way it was for me as a player). We first all agree the movie THE.HUSTLER is an outstanding movie. The Color of Money was also very entertaining but not the same level as films go. This movie isnt trying to be another version of these classics. The plot is different with a very good script and the most realistic (I know there were many set up shots as in all pool movies. However, if you a high level player you can see that Mars Callahan was, is a fine playerwith a nice stroke and is very comfortable on the table. The.same for Jackie.Gleason in the Hustler. Why is this a fine movie? The script was real . This.man I.would bet lived the game. He also made great use of his/their limited number of sets without using a lot of gimmicky editing. The cast was.terrific. Im surprised.a movie at this budget level could get Chaz P. ,Rod Steiger and Christopher Walken . Im sure they liked the script.and short.shooting schedule. Mars Callahan is a great talent in all three areas in the making of this film. Acting , writing and directing. I dont know why we havent seen more of him in any of these areas. What I especially liked was Mars knows players know other.players level very quickly and there is no great hustle. At.least on the table. The real hustling is between people living life and not only playing the game. The story line is interesting .People making choices. There is some humor, no over the top acting and nice camera work . Its really a movie that shouldnt be missed if you enjoy this.genre . I would like to see more of Mars.C. work.. His.work seemed to be multi dimensional and I would like to see more as a writer or director. ... show more

  • Quality product
The price was more than I've been used to paying for a single movie but I've searched for this particular film for some time and feel it's worth it

  • The Hustler 2.0
While it might be tempting to label Poolhall Junkies as a spiritual successor to The Color of Money , it is more accurately a remake of that shared pater familias, The Hustler . Huge star power cannot corrupt this independent film. Nor can Alison Eastwood's wooden performance ruin it. As if having Chazz Palminteri and Christopher Walken wasn't enough, Rick Schroder channels Steve McQueen, plus there's Rod Steiger in his last role. How all these actors were brought on board (and how were they paid?) is beyond me. Writer-Director Mars Callahan (real name: Gregory Martin) was thankfully too dumb to be starstruck and delivers a true and powerful performance. I've watched this three times already in a month since getting the DVD, and it's not wearing thin. I expect the first scenes to get fast-forwarded are the buddies mugging Diner . Kickin' soundtrack (including the difficult-to-find Redneck Gigolo ) and sharp photography. This is a helluva budget flick. You would never guess it was filmed in Salt Lake City. Bonus: commentary by the filmmaker/writers on this DVD. ... show more

  • fun movie, nevermind the film students
i remember when i first watched this film...... it made me want to go down to my bar and shoot pool. the people who gave bad reviews for this film must be kids who just failed out their first "intro to film class" and are bitter that quentin tarantino, david lynch, or john waters wasn't mentioned, or people that take pool way to seriously and spend every waking moment at their pool hall. remember kids its just a game. regardless of all the technical aspects of the film, if you enjoy just chasing around that little black ball around for a night, check this movie out. you're not gonna see any crazy explosions or ultra violence, but its just entertaining. sometimes people get way too involved with stealing a movies credibility and ripping it to shreds only because the director should haved panned left when he panned right. its a fun movie, and if you get past trying to be "Johnny Film Expert", or "Johnny Pool Shot" you wont have regreted watching it. ... show more
