When I saw a rear view mirror made specifically to clamp onto a pontoon railing, I ordered it so fast! If you are the person who loads and unloads the boat at the ramp, you know exactly why something like this is useful. I cannot count how many times I have been backing our pontoon away from the dock and had a boat, kayak, paddleboard or even a jet ski decide that was the perfect time to come right behind us. When I am concentrating on keeping a large pontoon from hitting the dock, it is difficult to constantly turn around and check what is happening behind me. This mirror gives me a wide view behind the boat and makes that whole process much easier. I was also impressed by how substantial it is. The mirror and pole have some weight to them and do not feel like lightweight plastic. The metal pole and clamp feel sturdy, and once I have it attached to our railing, it stays where I put it. I can adjust the telescoping pole and mirror angle to get the view I need from the captain’s seat. This is one of those boat accessories that solves a problem I have dealt with over and over at busy ramps. I still physically check my surroundings, but having that rear view mirror gives me another set of “eyes” behind our pontoon while maneuvering around the dock.

This is what has been missing with our summer pontoon safety. Pulling tubes, floating on the lake, water-skiers, knee boarding, you name the activity and now the boat driver can see the action. Our season is over, but in the spring when everything comes out of winter storage this wide mirror will help with visibility to see what's going on in back. Attached easily, and it's a very nice heavy duty mirror. *As an Amazon Vine member I personally select the products to review. Favorable 4-5 star reviews are common since I select items I expect I will like. However, should the product fall short I will always include honest information. I am reviewing product, not the packaging or price. Rarely will I comment on the cost, buyers should determine the value themselves. All opinions are my own and on occasion I may solicit feedback from my family.

I ordered this mirror kit to use with my 24 foot tritoon boat and I have been very happy with it. This is a very heavy-weight product made of high-quality materials that should be able to endure bumps and impacts from waves and wind, salt water, and sun exposure. All of the clamps and joints seem to be very substantial and stay tight even after being subjected to the bumps and impacts that I just described. My only complaint is that the anti-slip pad used with the clamp assembly is a loose piece that is easily lost if you are mounting the clamp vertically like I did. While I was tightening the clamp, the anti-slip pad slipped out and fell into the water to never be seen again. The manufacturer really should have found some way to attach this piece to the clamp assembly or to the mounting screws so that it cannot be lost. However, I have installed it by just using the two mounting screws on the clamp which seems to keep it tightly attached to my boat but using the anti-slip pad would have been better because it would have allowed the clamping pressure to be spread across a larger surface area. Aside from that minor flaw, I think this is a very good product and I do recommend it.

This will share time between a couple different boats. The first is my inflatable pontoon row boat for fishing. Since you row with your back facing forward, it requires regular “look around” to verify you’re on course if you’re going any distance. Being able to quickly clamp this mirror onto the boat frame is a game changer on that front. And second, since it’s clamped on, I can take it over to the big boat for a rear view on the open helm station. Install and removal only takes seconds. My only complaint is that I have to clamp it to a vertical flange for this boat and the rosette mount at the bottom of the staff will not lock into a true vertical position. It’s either a few degrees off to one side or the other of vertical. Not something I’d knock any stars for, but it was an odd quirk about the pivot point. The build quality on this piece is top-tier. Everything is heavy duty. The mirror has a wide-angle convex shape to give you a wider field of view on the horizontal plane. Overall, this is a great product. Full recommendation from me.

Objects in this mirror appear as they appear. I am very excited to attach this to my pontoon boat that I do not have yet to cruise on the lake that I do not live near, yet. I recently retired and after 20 years, I am leaving the desert for a lake front property in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I grew up on a lake with a pontoon and a speedboat and I am going back to my roots. One thing I learned about boating and passengers is that the "spotter" can not always be relied upon. Most of the tine they are looking everywhere but where they are needed. I can also confirm that boats do not come with a factory installed mirror. It's an aftermarket part. Not sure why because its like driving a car without a mirror. Makes no sense. This mirror seems to be able to attach to most railings and ledges aided by an adjustable clamp. Additionally, thanks to the armature, it is able to adjust up or down and left to right. The mirror itself is concave so that you can see more in the mirror. This unit seems to have everything needed except one very important item. The mirror "glass" is actually made out of plastic. It's the same material used for anti-fog shower mirror. It doesn't hold up. This will quickly lose its luster. For that, I have to deduct one star. Other than that, it seems to be fairly impressive.

As a new boat owner I felt this would help until I get more experience. The mirror bracket is much heavier duty than I expected. It is very sturdy cast aluminum metal painted black. The round arm holding the mirror is polished aluminum metal. The mirror housing itself seems to be a sturdy plastic. I believe the mirror is also plastic. The field of view in my opinion is perfect. It provides exactly the view I was looking for. There are a couple minor issues. There is one very small spot at the edge of the top of the mirror where there is some distortion. I looks like where the mirror was popped into the housing itself may have bent just slightly. It is a very small spot and not really a problem. The other thing is with the design. There are two knobs that are essentially screws that you use to tighten the bracket onto your square rail. To keep from marring the square rail there is a plat with rubber on one side that you place between the screws and the rail. When you tighten the screws the plate tends to shimmy over. You also need to be careful before everything is tight that the plate doesn’t fall off the rail and wind up in the water. It would be better if the plate was somehow attached to the screws while still allowing them to turn or a completely different attachment method were devised. All in all, I like the mirror and it works well once installed. The price seems about right.
