After some research, I found that painting white exterior shutters in a dark color can cause warping, buckling, and bending due to heat absorption from the sun. The black cosmos paintable shutters were the perfect solution to this problem. Because they are already black, painting them another dark color (SW Iron Ore) was less likely to cause this issue. In addition we used vinyl safe paint to further mitigate that risk. We are confident these shutters will withstand the Colorado sun on our west facing home. We are very pleased with this purchase.

Up close they don’t look like what I had hoped, but I wanted to see what they looked like on the house before I sent them back. I was pleasantly surprised that when they were put up, they do look quite good. They look like real wood. Honestly, I didn’t want wood bc I’ve seen other houses and after a few years they look faded and cracked. I didn’t not want that maintenance issue, so I chose this company. Pleased with my decision.

The shutters are made from very light plastic and are not well reinforced and easily distort from even mild heat. We live on the coast where the temperature ranges from 55 to 70 and even here they do not stay straight. In a hot climate they will be like cooked spaghetti . This is even more so the case as you move to the larger sizes. They are made from three pieces with the ends heat welded to the center section and the joints are not straight. If you can afford it buy better products
