After reading reviews, the product description, and a little common sense with the asking price, I lowered my expectations of receiving a thick denim overall. It is cotton. Still, a good material for summer but I knew there wouldn't be the exact same look of distress and thickness around the seams since the cotton folds thinner. It's not the color of the threads that keep this from being identical. It is the material. It also lacks the worn, subtle acid wash color especially noticeable around the seams. The color is solid and flat- uniform appearance. It is possible to lightly acid wash cotton which I will probably do to make it look more like authentic denim if an abusive washing and drying doesn't bleed some of the color for me. Second- the fit. I usually play it safe and size up. Thanks to other reviews, I did not. I'm 5'7" and 120lbs. This fits like a medium but as a small it gives an oversized baggy look. If you really want to make it look more like a exact dupe, you're going to want to take the seams in a smidgen in some places. In reality, this is all making up for what it is really lacking which is the thickness of denim. This affects how it lays and displays and is just something hard to replicate and improvise on. I love this style and it is super cute ! Really a great free people dupe. Only problem is the baggy style causes rubbing between the legs when walking. I’ve worn biker shorts under to prevent. I bought both these and the Free People pair, and I ended up returning these. The difference in quality was very noticeable. I sized up based on other reviews, but I really didn’t need to — I was swimming in the large (legs too long, straps too long, body was gaping at the sides).
