  • excellent piano learning books
Bought these books for my daughter. She really likes them and she learn pretty fast under the teacher's guidance. The books fit kid's level very well and also provide much more for exercise. Highly recommended.

  • Good basic books
I've been a piano teacher for years and have used these books in different levels. The students won't know most nor like most but are good basic training for growing a productive piano student.

  • Excellent first classics for little fingers
I have used this book quite successfully as a follow-up to John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers to Play," which I use almost exclusively for beginner beginners. Before coming upon this book I tried following up "TLFTP" with John Thompson Book 1. I found my students, particularly those not completely sold on piano lessons, to get bored rather quickly with JTbk1, and in my opinion those pieces are a bit dated. This classics book makes a beautiful sequel for "TLFTP" in large part because it is, in the words of my students, "real" music. It also helps that each piece has an accompaniment which fills out the arrangement. The pieces are fairly popular classical selections, so students have aural recognition, which helps their musicality develop. For most of the book students "park" their hands in a position, in which it remains for the rest of the piece (much like "TLFTP") - but by the end students are doing some moving around, working in accidentals, and shifting away from the "position" idea. Faber and Faber also gradually introduce more complex dynamic elements, which I appreciate. This book IS arranged sequentially, from easier pieces to harder pieces, so it's definitely designed to be a teaching tool. Margin notes dovetail these pieces with the Faber and Faber lesson book 1 as well, which is an excellent companion to this book. Faber and Faber also have subsequent levels, which continue with the same ideals and methodology as this book (although I'm not such a big fan of the 2A book--see review for more details). While this book is called Level 1, I would NOT use it with beginner beginners. Too hard for someone who has never touched a piano. Overall an excellent teaching tool for a student having completed a primer course. ... show more

  • Good progression and introduction to classical music.
This a good progression from the Primer level books. It introduces accidentals and eighth notes while still achievable, and gives kids exposure to and the opportunity to play some great classical themes.

  • Fun songs
It taught me a lot of songs from people who are very good at piano and I enjoyed all the pieces. - review from 8yrs old daughter

  • Great for new pianists that like classics
Here are some very basic versions of familiar classical pieces. These are great for people that are new to the instrument. In other words, as a beginner they are pieces you can handle but still enjoy the music you are playing. When you are new you need that because it is easy to get discouraged if the music is too difficult or if what you are playing not only doesn't move you but makes you feel silly. You need all the motivation you can get, and this book will give you what you need. I like this book a lot. I gave mine away because a family member wanted it, but I would have kept it otherwise. Then we bought another one. ... show more
