I seem to be on an endless quest for my ideal "homebody" shoe. Something to throw on to go get the mail or take the dog around the neighborhood or walk into town on a little errand or stroll. I have some mules I love but they're not great for hills or anything of significant length. I have had another pair of Pitas but didn't like the color, and I am currently wearing a pair of Olukais that I like the design of but they're a full leather upper and that doesn't play well with my sweaty feet. So, here we are with another textile based shoe. First, no idea why this was labeled as "khaki" when it's clearly like a grey-green for most of the upper. But I love the color they are, kind of more grey but in sunlight you get the green undertones to pop some. I sized up on these, I have learned with laceless (or essentially laceless shoes) that while a smaller size feels secure, a larger size is better for comfort. You aren't getting these to run a marathon or tackle technical terrain, so the relaxed fit is the way to go. These foit well for walking, and have a really nice removable insoles that has great cushioning. And they are super breathable, honestly the best I have worn in that aspect. The outsole/tread are decently robust, adequate for the intended use. Now, the big issue. These have a secondary lace thing that runs along the side and then around the heel cup. And when pulling them on one day, I grabbed that rear part rather than the pull-on loop. And it just pulled out a ton of lace from the area that connects the two. And it just doesn't go back in. I took a couple of dog walks with it like that, hoping the natural motion would help pull it back in (you can pull the side bits to get the heel portion in but then they're hanging loose instead), but no luck. Nearly an hour with a bent paper clip and crochet needle and other tools and I could not get it jammed back in. So I just cut it up at the front points and pull the whole thing. Turns out it's purely for style, I have been wearing them with one cut and one not and can't tell the difference. So this zero function lace exists for looks and a chance for you to snag it or pull it accidentally. And you can either spend a lot of effort trying to reset it or just cut it, so I kind of wish it wasn't there at all. Photos show the stretched loop and the look post-removal. ... show more

  • Hearing the Cry of Men
Size: 11 Color: Khaki
My HeyDudes have met their end, and now they have met their match! I enjoyed my HeyDudes while I had them, but the bottom of the soles wore FAST, and as a result, I would slip and slide on any surface that was smooth or had a slight bit of moisture. Enter PITAS! I was looking for a cheaper alternative and found these suckers. These shoes are SOOOO comfortable!...surprising since they are made with recyclable materials. They are very lightweight and quite fashionable. Usually women get unlimited color options, and us men are stuck with basic colors...when my wife went to find some of these for herself, she noticed the color options for women weren't as robust. I felt liberated! LOL. The soles are the best part!...they are flexible and the tread is deep and sturdy. After wearing them for two months I have not seen the amount of wear that I saw on my HeyDudes in the first 30 days. These shoes are very well-made and worth it! In terms of value, the price ($70) is on the higher end. However, they are very comfortable and look great. Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ... show more

  • No Sock Needed
Size: 10 Color: Navy
These arrived late at night and I looked at one and thought it looked like a flat soled shoe of little distinction. The next day I tried them out. With one on I was dancing one footed about the house. I had set the other down on my way to bed and dancing on the one shod foot while looking for the second shoe. Yes, floating like Fred and her, in a musical. I find them a very nice fit for my size 10 feet. So comfortable I wore them about on bare feet for the entire morning. The slip-on design is a good one the shoe slipped on to my higher arched feet like a sock. The grip gentle and confident. On placing pressure down on the first shoe the cushioned sole gave me a jump to my step that I have never had in a common boat shoe, slip-on or not. I took time to examine the material of the surface and sole as it was strong but flexible and it seems to be similar to the weave of the skin of a quality rope. The lining seems of a similar weave but has a soft brushed feel. This is rugged like sail canvas but of some breathable fiber giving confidence to the protection the full toe offers and ventilation as well. The fabric seems to stretch much more than a canvas textile can. Then while bored and still enamored with the shoes I took time to look at the tags. To my surprise the shoes are made with some portion being recycled pet bottles. This is a very nice shoe. Everyone should have a pair, after all everyone has emptied enough pet bottles to make these shoes. After a month these shoes have moved into the front row and I use them often and will seek them again in time. ... show more
