  • Extremely Faithful to the Originals...
Platform For Display: PlayStation 3
Growing up I used to crowd around the local pinball watching others play because I kind of suck at the reflex type games but was nonetheless addicted to the mechanical beauty of pinball. Pros ---------- 1) Extremely faithful to the original tables down to the crappy sounding effects. If you are expecting noise free, clean-as-ice high-fidelity sound effects, this is not for you. I was actually pleasantly shocked to find even the sounds are genuine "reproductions". If you have heard those sounds, you will experience them here, exactly as before with the same imperfections. 2) Stunning tables. Every graphical details are there and makes you appreciate the amount of design that went into them by the designers and engineers that made them come to life. 3) Ball weight and feel. With another great video pinball like Zen Pinball (PS3), arguably the best pure-digital pinball out there, the balls in Zen feel smaller and glide too easily with little to no friction. The balls in Williams pinball feel just like their analog brothers and it's very hard to explain. They feel heavier and you can almost sense the effects of the ball rolling over the table. It is a much more tactile/analog feeling than Zen. Cons ----------- 1) Most tables have only 2 customizable views: full and smart. Smart allows you to be a little closer to the table and it will auto-zoom when the ball goes to the deep end. Unfortunately, there are only 2 views for most tables. 2) Loading speed of the game, table selection screen, and tables themselves are slow. In fact, after every game, the game will perform a "save" which takes 5 seconds. Nitpicking here but this is 2010, not 1999 and this is a PS3 with a hard drive, not a PSP with a memorystick. We want instant action, not loading screens. 3) Difficulty level. You get 3 balls. If the real games are hard, this game will present the same challenges. However, the stronger "tilt" control does give you the chance to save more balls as compared to the real thing. Other than that, expect the same frustrations and relive the same horrors as you watch the ball drop helplessly down the middle as you frantically punch the flippers. My favorite table is and has always been Fun House in Williams Pinball. That creepy clown is just, perfect. =) You have to play it to know what I mean. Fun House is also one of those tables that had a perfect balance between difficulty and genuine fun. It was the first table to make my mouth drop. Just writing about it brings a smile to my face and I'm sure others feel the same way. In conclusion, this game has infinite replay value and is an excellent buy. If you have never played pinball before, be prepared, and if you are an old timer, just buy the game already as you will not regret it. ... show more

  • Delayed Flipper Action_Bizarre Camera Movement
Platform For Display: PlayStation 3
It is strange that none of the reviewers mention how slow the reaction time is between controller button and flipper movement-- the delayed flipper action on all the tables means that none of them are fun to play, no matter how much they resemble the real thing. Also, the camera does a weird pan and scan movement throughout the game, following the ball, so if the ball starts moving fast, the camera jerks from the bottom of the table to the top and back--it is awful. This game is definitely not worth the money, at least not on PS3. ... show more

  • Must Buy for Pinball Addicts
Platform For Display: PlayStation 3
I own this game on Wii and PSP. Now with the recent Hi-Def releases I own it on both Xbox 360 & PS3 also. Both purchased at Amazon for $29.49 (more than $10 off retail.) That comes out to $2.27 per pin - that's insane value given the excellent implementation. Is it worth adding this title if I own it on Wii, PS2 or PSP? Absolutely! You get 3 new tables - No Good Gophers, Arabian Nights & Medieval Madness. All of these are newer Solid State pins with complex and fun rule sets. You also get the Hi-Def graphics which blow the previous Wii version's graphics away. Finally there are online high score boards, but unfortunately no online tournaments or Friends High Scores....yet. Can the develepors implement this...I truly have no idea but my guess is that if there is support it is possible! Even if you have only a casual interest in Pinball I highly recommend this game. If you love pinball this is a MUST buy. I'd go so far as to say it's worth buying an Xbox 360 or PS3 just to play this game if you are a pinball freak. The ball physics and table modeling is spot on. Sound is authentic. Nothing beats the feel of this game except owning the real pins which is a bit more expensive and takes up a great deal more room. If you've never played pinball but are interested you should give this a try...probably the cheapest, easiest way to get a good sampling of some of the best tables ever. A request for all new and old fans, if you buy this game and like it, please post a positive review and spread the word to your friends and acquaintances. We want to see more tables issued on disc or through downloadable content. Support the developers and let license holders on these table know that there is an overwhelming demand to see more great pins brought to a new generation of gamers. Oh yeah...final question - Is this better on Xbox 360 or PS3? If you're a pinball purist and own both systems you may want to buy it for both. Otherwise choose the system with the controller that feels best in your hand. If everything is equal and you just want one, go with the Xbox 360 for the following reasons 1) More achievements ( the PS3 trophies are a little sparse) 2) More competition for high scores online - at least so far...if you don't like competition go PS3. Enjoy! ... show more
