Soothie is designed to calm and soothe without inhibiting normal oral development, like the natural development of teeth and gums. Transparent, tasteless and odorless, the nipple is strong and smooth. It won't become sticky, discolored or misshapen. Soothie is made of hospital-grade, BPA-free and latex-free silicone for strength, comfort and durability. It is dishwasher safe and can be sterilized in a sterilizer. Soon all of our Soothies will say Philips Avent; but for a while, you may see some products that say “Soothie, Children’s Medical Ventures” and others that say “Philips Avent” in market. We bought a bunch of orthodontic pacifiers and even some pacifiers with a similar nipple to this, but a curved area instead of the flat round back this one has, and our baby hated them all. Instead she loves this, so we bought more. Once she's asleep she doesn't usually get upset if it falls out of her mouth. Our first baby used orthodontic pacifiers and would wake up and cry. I don't think there's any nipple confusion, because she definitely knows the difference and will spit this out and scream when she's hungry. And we even use Philips Avent bottles too (when not nursing). At 4.5 months she can even put it in her own mouth sometimes or get it to her mouth and chew on the side, which makes her happy too. They're easy to clean, which I like, since we had a problem with the pacifiers that aren't one piece molding. Our only problem is they get lost like all pacifiers or the cat gets them. My son is an animal on pacifiers. Hands down these last the longest and provide him with the comfort he needs in the trying times of his toddler life. Upset, boom paccie time. These were the exact pacifiers that the nurses gave our little one at the hospital when he was born, so we KNEW these were the ones to have on hand when we got home. I didn't think about bringing a pacifier to the hospital when giving birth but wasn't opposed to giving my newborn one. This is the type of pacifier my hospital had and he liked it. We have purchased multiple orders of these pacifiers now! We received one at the hospital after my son was born and were trying out different brands we received from my baby shower. After I met with a lactation consultant, she noticed we were using a Nuk and recommended us exclusively using this type of pacifier because my son was being breastfed. Apparently the straight nipple type helps breastfed babies more than other shapes that are on the market for newborns. My son loves this pacifier now and can still hold it on his own.
