Description

Philips Avent Natural Response nipple lets baby control the pace of the milk, like they do when breastfeeding. The nipples' unique opening and tip only releases milk when your baby actively drinks. When pausing to swallow and breathe no milk flows. Baby can drink, swallow, and breathe using their natural rhythm, just like they do when breastfeeding. Easily combine breast and bottle feeding with a wide breast-shaped nipple with a soft feel that mimics the shape and feel of a breast; plus baby controlling the flow of milk. The nipple has a no-drip design which helps prevent lost milk from the tip. An anti-colic valve integrated into the nipple is designed to reduce colic and discomfort by sending air away from your baby's tummy. The Natural response nipples come in flow rates 1-5, to keep up with your baby's growth. Use Philips Avent Natural bottles only with Philips Avent Natural nipples. Includes: 4 Natural Response nipples, flow 3. SCY963/04 What to expect when introducing the Philips Avent Natural Response Nipple It is totally natural for your baby to take 2-3 tries to get milk flowing from a new bottle. Unlike traditional bottles the Natural bottle is designed to only release milk when your baby is actively drinking, like what happens when babies breastfeed. We have 5 different nipple flow rates for the Natural bottle. When looking for the right nipple flow rate, age is a guide, but your baby's approach to drinking and the feeding cues they will show will help determine when to move to a higher or lower nipple flow rate.

  • No-drip is my favorite feature. Confusing/inconsistent flow rating system
Style: Flow 3
I recently wrote a review for the Philips Avent Natural bottles. For many reasons. this has become my favorite bottle system. My baby is very comfortable with these nipples, though I delayed using these until he was 8 weeks old because he had a lot of problems with gas and colic as a newborn, so I used the Philips Avent Anti-Colic bottles instead. After reading more about these Natural bottles, I learned that they have an "anti-colic valve" in the nipple, which is just the little vent hole that the air escapes through. You can hear and see the air (bubbles) moving every time the baby sucks. Do I really think it's as effective as the designated anti-colic bottle? Probably not. I do think my baby swallows significantly more air with these, which I believe has caused trapped air bubbles, which have resulted in a couple incidents of projectile vomiting since switching to these bottles. But we are just more likely to give him a good burp mid-feed. Other than that, he hasn't been noticeably more gassy. These natural flow nipples are definitely my favorite aspect of the Natural bottles. They are no-drip nipples, so they don't flow unless the baby is sucking. This eliminates the need for paced bottle feeding, and you can feed the baby in more positions (but unlike the Philips Avent Anti-Colic bottles, these are not the best for upright feeding, because the nipple will not fill with milk/formula when you get down to the last ounce or so). Baby needs to be reclined to get every last drop. Otherwise, I am a fan of all that, since paced feeding is extra work and my baby would sometimes choke on MAM and Dr. Brown's bottles regardless of the nipple flow. Now I can't stress this enough. Double check what flow level you should be using with Natural Flow nipples based on your baby's age. Follow their cues, of course, to determine if you need to go up or down a flow level, but just be aware that Philips has a totally different flow rating scale between their different bottle systems. This is a major gripe of mine because it did cause me a week of frustration where my baby was not eating well when I transitioned to these bottles, and it took me way too long to figure out that the nipple flow level was the issue. Well, my baby was 9 weeks at the time and using a #2 Natural Flow nipple. I was coming from Philips Avent Anti-Colic bottles, where flow 2 nipples = 1m+. Well apparently, Natural Flow nipple #2 is only 0m+, so my baby was working way too hard to eat and getting tired/fussy at the bottle before even eating 2 oz. I have since upgraded him to the flow 3 nipples which are suitable for 1m+, and he is eating normally now. Overall very pleased with my baby's feeding experience since switching to these exclusively, but deducting one star for more air and confusing/inconsistent flow rating scale. ... show more

  • Great for a Picky Breastfeeding Baby
Style: Flow 2
We had tried to introduce our baby to another kind of nipples in preparation for child care and it was very stressful, she wasn't a fan. I had shopped around and found these and she took the bottle no problem the first try! I love that the wide-mouth bottles are compatible with my Spectra pump parts, so there's less to clean because I just pump into the Avent bottles, throw them in the fridge, and we use them the next day with these nipples. Our little one is 4 months and still using Flow 2. She has always seemed to prefer a lower flow even when nursing and would get frustrated if milk was coming too quickly. She has no problem getting milk out with Flow 2, so I like that there are other options with the same bottles, but don't see us switching anytime soon. ... show more

  • Love these!
Style: Flow 5
I absolutely love these. I used the anti-colic nipples for the longest, and I wasn't happy with them - a lot of formula ended up on my baby's chin - so I switched to these as I needed size 5. These don't spill so if I leave my almost 10 month old with the bottle and it gets thrown around her crib, I have no worries. I will definitely consider these versus the anti-colic for baby #2! ... show more

  • Not sure what all the bad reviews are about
Style: Flow 1
I see a lot of reviews saying the milk flow is way too slow and it’s almost impossible to get any out… maybe those people got a defective batch of nipples because that hasn’t been my experience with these at all 🤷♀️ My baby is switching from Tommee Tippee brand, and he has been using their slowest flow (size 0). These Avent nipples are definitely slightly faster flow than those. When I tried sucking myself I was easily able to get milk through. So far we are loving these. They don’t leak at all, and my baby transitioned easily and was able to feed normally right away, even though Tommee Tippee is the only brand he has ever used until now. He did take the bottle out of his mouth a few times and stare at the new nipple looking a little confused, but the was it 😄 For reference he is almost 10 months old, and had been using slow flow nipples from the beginning, and they’re still working great for him. ... show more

  • Must have
Style: Flow 1
Why in the world is the 0m+ that come with the bottles such a fast flow? You think you will hate these bottles it’s just the nipple. These have helped my baby so much!

  • Lovee
Style: Flow 3
I love these bottle nipples. I used to use dr brown hotties as I was recommended them but besides them being difficult to clean my baby would drink so quickly and more than a “normal” amount would spill out from the sides of her mouth. The way these nipples are designed to only flow when she sucks have been a big change. Its rare that she has any milk come out/spill ... show more

  • good but not great
Style: Flow 5
These go on the bottle fine, but getting them in there is rough. Like to the point its frustrating. I understand there needs to be a seal, but these seem to go beyond normal sealing methods. Otherwise the nipples themselves work great once they are actually in the bottle.
