These breakaway collars are important for your pet. If they get caught on a fence or anything they could choke to death with a normal collar trying to get off. With a breakaway collar they at least have a chance to get away by the collar coming apart first.

These are great collars. I like that when my dogs play, they are not at risk of getting strangled. They often play hard enough they rip each other’s collars off, so I can just imagine the risk if they did not have the breakaway feature. Be aware that if you order the red though it is definitely more of a pink. I got red to match my dog’s harness but you can see clearly that the colors are quite different. At least my dog is a girl. :) ... show more

I was initially very disappointed in this purchase. Was bought for my 11 week old rottweiler pup. Call me paranoid, but I don't want to risk her strangling herself with a collar. At the same time, she needs to get used to wearing a "necklace" so she can be leash trained. I was sure this was the solution. I couldn't make it pop open by hand. I'm not exaggerating when I say I pulled HARD with both hands to try to make it break away. I eventually hooked it over my foot and pulled, that made it pop. But there was no way I was putting that on my pup. Just as reassurance that it's not a weakness issue, I can hold back my six year old male rottweiler with a leash when he sees a rabbit. My husband found it in the trash. After he pulled it apart, yes he could make it open, he agreed that it wasn't safe. He used a rotary tool to grind some of the plastic away. It now pops open with (my best guess) about 8-10 pounds of pressure. Zena is now the new owner of a bright red collar. She currently hates it, not gonna lie, but she hasn't been able to scratch it off, yet. For those that worry, yes it's removed at night until she decides to accept it. Hopefully soon, I will be able to start her leash training. I'm very confused over why a break away collar would be made to be that difficult to actually break away. Benefit of the doubt, maybe I got a defect. If you have the ability to grind/sand the end to loosen it, then I recommend taking the chance. Keeping my pup safe is worth it. But be sure to test it before use. I ultimately gave it four stars because I don't have the knowledge or skills to make my own and it was relatively easy to fix. But I couldn't, in all fairness, give a full five stars. ... show more

Love these so much all 3 of my dogs have time!! Granted, they don’t wear a collar most of the time in our gated yard and one of my dogs usually wears his leather collar if we’re going out for a ride or to a dog friendly store, but he’s a bit older than the 2 “puppies” (1 & 2 y/o) and doesn’t participate in their wrestling “shenanigans.” I’ve read one too many stories about dogs almost suffocating while wearing a “regular collar” — getting tangled together or onto a fence and the horrifying images burned into peoples minds as they frantically try to free their dog of the collar. It does take practice to remember when hooking a leash to the collar that it must hook to 2 metal loops, as opposed to one, otherwise they “break free” as soon as they give a good tug in the leash! As you see, this isn’t the most “fashionable” collar, so if you want something a little more personalized and have a dog/dogs who maybe don’t play together, or stay in the house most of the time and are watched at all times in the yard, perhaps this item isn’t for you. ... show more

I just purchased 3 of these collars. I needed a break-away collar after a freak accident where one of my dogs was almost strangled while playing with the other. I purchased a large for my 48 lb. aussie since she wears a large in other brands. She has a very thick ruff. It was too large even with the collar doubled over. A medium fits her with an extra 3" to spare. I purchased a medium for my border collie - again based on her size. It was too big even when doubled over. I just bought her a small which is way too small for her. The collar measures just 14" when fully extended. This will be the third one I return. It's too bad that the the small collar (10"-14") doesn't have a 2" overlap with the medium, similar to how the medium (14"-20") has a 2" overlap with the large (18"-28"). ... show more

I unfortunately learned the hard way of the possible dangers of dog collars, when one of my dogs got his jaw stuck under the others collar. I immediately looked for another option to regular collars and that’s when I discovered these. So far I’m very happy with them and they’ve been working just as intended ... show more
