The media could not be loaded. Peel is a brand that I see advertised everywhere as sort of the Ferrari of phone cases. I’ve always been intrigued by having the world’s thinnest case, Apple has spent billions on making their phones as slim as modern technology lets them (until next year I hear when they are expected to drop one half as thick). Anyway I want to protect my phone of course, but I still want to have it remain as thin as possible and this is supposed to be the brand that does that. Does it? FIRST IMPRESSIONS I have seen several different takes on ultra-thin cases. Most are sort of like stretching a rubber balloon over my phone, made of a very thin TPU material. Then others, like my personal choice (and the one I ended up picking as the best) are somewhere in-between – mostly rigid but slightly flexible, and using hinged button covers instead of jus bumps in the TPU. My first impression of this Peel case is, huh, why is this thing forty-five bucks, and then I remember the massive (and expensive) advertising they do, somebody has to pay for it. But why should it be me? I was a bit disappointed; this case feels like a hard piece of plastic with no protection at all for the buttons, which by the way is the only thing on today’s smartphones that is vulnerable to liquid or dust damage. And, hold on, this case is no thinner than the Torras case I picked for my own use, and in almost every way it feels cheaper, but costs half as much and has a built-in magnet. This is not looking good for this product. USING IT Having more than one phone in the house means I can try out cases for each of them and give my honest opinion. I’m just not getting why I would want to spend forty-five bucks for a piece of plastic that must cost three cents to make. Even while writing this I kept going back to it to find positive things I could say, but its stratospheric price kept on rising up as a deal breaker. YES NO MAYBE The summary is that being realistic there isn’t a bad case, it’s just not a great case. The plastic feels slick in my hand and not worth the price. While I feel you can do better, I don’t want to invent negatives that aren’t there so the only point I will take away is for being a bad value. ... show more
