Description

In the entire world of health care, no country blows through money and underperforms like the United States. Despite spending $4 trillion annually, American health care is unavailable to those who need it most, overly promoted to those who need it least, and worst of all, criminally expensive. With multiple corporate middlemen lining up to take ever-increasing cuts, billions of dollars in premiums and out of pocket spending are syphoned off before a penny is spent for actual care. Hospital systems, big pharma, and private insurers all take huge cuts from the prices paid by everyday patients and families. The result? Individual incomes suffer, business productivity diminishes, and for millions, the American dream is destroyed. Written from the vantage point of a Family Physician, the book shows how the nation's health care system continues to veer further off the rails, transitioning from a profession focused on providing patient care, to a bottom-line driven enterprise virtually indistinguishable from hawking cheeseburgers and kitty litter Each year, we spend more than enough to provide care for all Americans. Much like a badly leaking bucket, our system of health care financing urgently needs to be replaced, and dollars redirected from middlemen profits to actual patient care. The book takes a hard look at how our current system evolved, and how vested interests have obstructed much-needed change. With topics ranging from a bloated medical educational system to a well-intended but insufficient Affordable Care Act, the text takes readers step by step through the factors driving health care toward bankruptcy. Finally, the book describes the clear steps that must be taken if the health care Americans need and deserve is to survive in the 21st century. Read more

  • A must read for all Americans
Format: Kindle
This should be required reading for all Americans. I knew our health system was broken but this clearly defines it but all gives ideas for a solution.

  • Finally Common Sense To Solve a Complex Problem
Format: Paperback
I very much appreciated the excellent work explaining the healthcare in the United States both for health care professionals and all the rest of us who who are wading through so many options to consider what choices we must take. Dr. Donald Frey has exposed the dark side of the insurance corporations with their self serving agendas that takes advantage of their customers by over billing that doesn’t have to be so that they can line their pockets with lucrative profits. I recommend without hesitation this book that gives clarity to work through your selection. I personally know Dr. Donald Frey is a man of high integrity, outstanding physician and an accomplished professor. Rev Steven W Gaines ... show more

  • Eye opener; picture of America’s not so much healthy nor caring business system
Format: Paperback
I am a family medicine board certified physician and been in practice for over fourteen years now. I could not agree more with Dr. Frey. Our not so caring not healthy system serves those who are economically advantaged at a very inefficient high cost. We as Americans I feel, are betrayed by our politicians and a lot of times the medical organizations that are supposed to represent us all. Well written book and a I learnt a lot of new things from it. Would recommend it highly to be read. ... show more

  • Healthcare System Knowledge
Format: Paperback
Book very informative and written by my former family medicine department chairman. I continue to respect Dr. Frey’s knowledge and insight about the United States’ Heath Care System. Hopefully people will learn from this information and pass the book on to many readers. Change will only come to our healthcare system by knowing exactly where and what our monthly premium payments are covering. And it is not 100% to actual patient health care when the Insurance Company is “for profit!” Bonus’ for COO & CEO’s are based on those bottom lines...sad! ... show more

  • Finally, an understandable book on solving our broken health care system
Format: Kindle
I have studied these issues for years. This is the best and most understandable explanation for a national health care solution I have found. Everyone should read this and support it to their friends, physicians and Congress people. It is NOT socialism, it is a workable, viable American solution.

  • Clear, understandable, a little iconclastic and completely true
Format: Paperback
I have read a lot of books on the disastrous US health system including some history of how we ended up in the mess we are in. Don Frey really nails it with a combination of clear writing, humor (but so much is not funny) and may be the best synopsis of the basis and politics of the health systems that anyone - lay person or health professional - could read. He has been at many levels of health systems, University Medical Centers and writes with authority but brings a kind of "can you BELIEVE this?!" sensibility that keeps you reading through what could be some very turgid stuff. Fine book. ... show more
