Not Sterling Silver Underneath

I want to preface this by saying I purchased my earrings February 2021. I have loved these earrings! They are my daily go to earrings. I do not shower, swim, or sleep in them. I always make sure I take them off, because I knew they were 14 karat gold plated. I purchased the white gold plated over sterling silver. I have gotten lots of wear out of them. But recently, I noticed one of the earrings was starting to look a bit tarnished. Which is fine, because I knew underneath it was silver. I have a silver polishing cloth and I polished them up. They still didn’t look very silver. I used to sell jewelry, so I got out my jeweler’s loop and looked closely at where it was looking tarnished and noticed that there is not silver underneath. It is absolutely copper or some other form of metal, because it’s brownish. So, just be aware that these are absolutely not plating over sterling silver. There’s no silver underneath the plating. They’re still cute earrings and they lasted me 5 1/2 years, so I’m not terribly mad about it. But I just wanted to make people aware of what they’re buying.
