  • OMG - Way beyond expectations!!
Flavor Name: Original Red Label Size: 2 Pound (Pack of 1)
This purchase was an afterthought...and it was cheap, so we decided to give it a go. We purchased a 3.4kg pork shoulder, and very liberally coated all sides with Pappy’s. We then vacuum sealed the pork, and cooked it sous vide at 165 degrees for 44 hours - just as we have done with other rubs many times before. Pappy somehow managed to impart a flavor profile that brought a HUGE smile to everyone’s face! This rub is BY FAR the best pork rub we have ever used. Unfortunately, it is not available in New Zealand, so I purchased three more and had them sent to a friend who will care for them until I can make it back to the USA to retrieve them. If you are not a fan of commercial rubs, then Pappy’s is for you. If you are a fan of commercial rubs, the Pappy’s will become your rub of choice. ADDED: we have now done a comparison of Pappy’s, McCormick bbq, and salt/pepper/garlic in 1.5 inch thick bone-in pork chops (cooked sous vide at 157 degrees to 2.5 hours). Pappy’s was the clear favorite by everyone. ADDED: we just finished a batch of beef jerky...we used a marinade of equal parts soy sauce and pineapple juice, and a handful of Pappy’s, and let it sit for 24 hours...we put a light dusting of Pappy’s on each piece, and dried at 110 degrees for 16 hours. The final dusting is not needed, and Pappy’s was fully impounded into the meat before drying...next time, we will just add a bit of cracked black pepper before drying. ADDED: We did burgers tonight...OMG, the flavor profile of Pappy’s on our mid-rare burgers was incredible! So much more flavor than our usual salt, pepper, and garlic powder. The only issue is that you can definitely UNDER SEASON your burgers...make sure you use enough of the seasoning (more than you would think...especially is you are doing 6 oz burgers. I am very surprised to say that Pappy’s is now our goto rub for all our meats now. For the fourth time...this is definitely a WOW! ... show more

I have used Pappy's Choice for over 20 years, well before it was even readily available here. I was introduced to it during our houseboating days by a neighbor who very nicely procured it for me on his next business trip to Fresno. I have tried other seasonings, rubs, etc. & nothing compares. It's GREAT on all types of meat, vegetables, dips -- you can really be creative with it and never go wrong. Their new flavors are good too! ... show more

  • Way too salty, and not very flavorful

Bummer... I really love great fajitas and was looking for a seasoning to replace the packaged easy seasoning we enjoyed for years out of Honeyville Farms (they don't offer it anymore and I can't find it anywhere else). That one reminded me of some of the tastiest, toastiest, most-flavorful fajitas I've had anywhere. This one...isn't it. Mostly, this tastes like salt with a sprinkle of additional spices. I recently bought a Traeger and was blown away by how much the traeger brand rubs cost. I bought this after reading the reviews and have been blown away by how great it is. Shakes out good and has a great flavor. I have used it with chicken breast, brisket, pulled pork and chicken wings. All have not needed sauce to eat as this rub has tons of flavor! ... show more

  • Good starter for my spice base
Flavor Name: Original Blue Label - Less Salt Size: 1.75 Pound (Pack of 1)
Not sure what they did with the Pappy's "Santa Maria" blend that I found and then it disappeared. I used it to reproduce a blend with Pappy's Blue as a starter with onion powder, coriander, paprika and garlic powder. I am not sure why they did not continue it, it was wow. Other Pappy's blends say Santa Maria blend but it's not the one I bought in the store that was beige, not dark. That said, glad to have this starter but it has too much salt and maybe a bit of cinnamon (yuck), yeah, it needs taming if you are coating a thin piece of meat or chicken. ... show more

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE this seasoning

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this seasoning, used it for few years now. I do use it only on meat (chicken, beef, pork, fish, ext..) . I did try few of the seasonings that you find at your local grocery stores, the one thing I didnt like about them is that if you put a little too much on the meat it comes out very salty. My opinion is that other seasonings have more salt to them then the other ingredients. But with this seasoning it the other way around, you get to taste and smell the other ingredients and just the right amount of salt. I have recommended this seasoning to every family member and to all of my friends. They all had good things to say about it. ... show more

Take the chicken thighs, drums, quarters what ever. Add your seasoning. Marinate them (un frozen) in soy sauce for 1 hour. I put them in a gallon freezer bag. Put them on the grill. Grill to temp. Flavor Name: Garlic Herb Size: 28 Ounce (Pack of 1)
For 30 years I used another product for Santa Maria Style BBQ Seasoning which changed their formula, and was heavy on the MSG. That is until I found "Pappy's Garlic Herb". I bought this 2 years ago, and have not used the other one since. Pappy's Garlic Herb is a superior Seasoning, I use it in everything I cook that requires this type of spice blend. this is now the #1 spice on our favorite BBQ meats, from chicken to Tri Tip. Only problem is for some reason, the markets in our area have stopped selling the Garlic Herb. It has become very hard to find.
