After playing a professional flute for 28 years, and after seeing/hearing a professional flutist playing this student instrument On Line, and hearing the outstanding audio, I decided to order a Paititi flute, merely because I wanted a beautifully looking instrument with black body with gold keys. I expected nothing from this low priced instrument (that I can return in 30 days with full refund) so, for a lark, I just wanted to see it/play it ... I didn't plan to keep this instrument; I planed to return it within 30 days. WOW! was I surprised! After checking the precise pitch of each note from high to low tones and after hearing the full brilliant bodied high pitches to LOW pitches: LOUD sounds that I play on this instrument, I retired my professional flute with its heavy weight and now I play ONLY this beautiful black bodied instrument with gold solid keys . It is light weight and easy to finger for me with my fingers that no longer respond so well as they once did. For these reasons: (1) light weight, for an 86 year-old musicians who plays five instruments from the Big Band days of the 40's, (2) accurate pitches (3) easy response from each key, (4) LOUD volume that I hear from both LOW notes and from HIGH notes, I retired my professional flute forever ... may it rest in peace ... it served me well. ... show more

The flute is a very pretty red. The red coating seems fairly thick, but will have to worry about scratches - so be careful! As far as the playing goes, it plays pretty well, has a nice sound, and after some adjustment of the headjoint, seems to be in tune. Almost all the notes sound well, but there is an issue with playing the B flat with the right hand - it sounds like there's a leak. I'm debating with myself on exchanging it, but I don't use that fingering often, so I haven't made up my mind. The high register sounds good and the low register is acceptable for something this price. How long will it last? Who knows? How much does it cost? Not much. The springs are supposedly stainless steel so can they rust? Don't know. At least I don't have to worry about tarnish. It does have a one year warranty, so that's good. I bought this instrument to use in a community band just for fun (we wear red) and I think it will be fine for that, but I certainly wouldn't use it in the flute choir I belong to. As far as a beginner goes, as long as all the notes play on the one you get, I think it would be good for a beginner, and the bright colors available would probably encourage any child to practice more. My guess is, with much playing you'd probably end up replacing it every two or three years but eventually a beginner progresses into a better flute anyway. As long as all the notes sound on the flute you receive, I would recommend it as OK for a beginner and a lot of fun for the more experienced. The flute comes with a hard case, a nylon case bag (my $9000 Yamaha didn't come with a case bag - had to buy one on Amazon), a cleaning rod and some stuff in a tiny jar that I think is to grease the tenons. ... show more

I'm a complete beginner to the flute. So take that into consideration from my experience. I'm reviewing the flute not exactly for it's performance, but mostly for it's style and budget tier. When I was a child, I loved the idea of playing the flute. But growing up renting a flute was about $35 a month during elementary school. It was very expensive. One year my family saved up and we rented a flute for about 3 months until Christmas vacation. Due to a lack of financial resources, time, and space, living in a small apartment, I had to end my flute lessons. As an adult now with more liberty and support, I browsed around for a flute and found this beautiful instrument. The price and color options were very appealing! I was so shocked to find such a fine instrument for so cheap! I was very conflicted between the purple and gold / black and gold. I decided that I'd be more comfortable practicing with a more neutral color. When this came in the mail I got so excited! Then when I opened it up, I could not stop admiring this flute!!! It was seriously like an inspiring moment in my life. The black and gold looks absolutely stunning. I was overwhelmed with nostalgia and amor. The first thing I've noticed was, it's a lot smaller than I remembered, because I was a small child since I last had a flute! I also LOVE the logo (top right on the body). The "SKY" with the angel wing coming out of it. Looks amazing! For the price, and with this being a beginner flute, I absolutely recommend it. ... show more
