First of all, let me just say that if your toddler wants to throw the plate, they will throw the plate whether or not it has suction on the bottom. No plate design will cure the wonderful curiosity and amazing temper tantrums. I have some other plates that have suction and they work on some surfaces better than the other. But this one doesn't need suction. The weight distribution is so ingenious that it stays on whatever surface you put it on even with the toddler's clumsy spooning technique. For me, I like that fact that I can pick it up easily without having to fight with the suction mechanism on the other plates (the suction always seems stronger when you want to pick it up). These plates are a little bit more than some others but they are worth it! Its heavy enough that my daughter can't lift it off her highchair and throw it and it doesn't slide around. I can clean these with a quick rinse and they are ready to reuse.

This is one of my son’s favorite plates. The issue is that after sometime the plate has the potential of permanently picking up the scent and taste of the dishwasher soap. I have to replace the plate now.

Oh I absolutely love how sturdy this product is. I have had it for a while now and use it almost every evening. There have been no necks or cuts or any issues with it. As far as suction power goes, it does not stick to the bottom of my cage at all, so I have had to put a mat underneath it to keep the area a little bit cleaner. These are great for my toddler. They have a nice weight to them so they stay put. But I agree with the other reviewers that they are difficult to clean. I hand wash and put them in the dishwasher and they still have residue and/or water marks, especially on the back side
