Well, it's finally happened. I've reached the point in life where I've fallen head over heels in love with a kitchen tool. Before you shake your head sadly and scroll on by, lamenting the loss of another middle-aged woman to the trappings of domesticity, allow me to reassure you that my passion is well founded. This is a sturdy, excellent tool that far exceeded my expectations in this grasping modern age of cheap construct for a quick buck. The plastic is smooth and sturdy and thick, not flimsy in any way. The little rubber feet on the container part of the kit actually do work to keep sliding to a minimum. The easily inserted/removed grating plates stay put but pop right out with almost no pressure. They are sharp and make clean cuts. The grated material actually stays in the container. This thing is a bloody miracle. It really works. I've had a few different sets that come with a container, but they cracked or grew brittle with use. Oxo products dont do that. I balked for a very long time at a $30 price tag on a grating set, but when I discovered that I had some unexpected cash back on a credit card, I applied it towards this set and it wound up only costing me five bucks out of pocket, so I went for it. It's totally worth the 30 bucks, people. If you cook and you rely on really good tools you can use and clean easily over and over again, Oxo does not disappoint. Theyre routinely at the highest price point, but their stuff is buy-once, last-forever quality, so you really can't blame them. You have to pay for stuff that lasts for 20 years, right? This slices veggies very thin and is also a good cheese grater. The blades are very sharp and cuts easily. I also like how the different blades store in the container. The best hand slicer/grater/shredder that I have found on the market. I love it!

The large size grating plate's plastic frame broke after 5 or 6 years of heavy use and I couldn't find a replacement plate, so I just bought another set. Love this grater set! Does an excellent job on cheeses and the mandoline-style slicing blade is good for cukes, summer squash, carrots, etc. The julienne blade doesn't work that great - but who really cares?     • Not great for an adaptive kitchen

I come from the adaptive side of a review. I'm a highly functional amputee, missing right arm. I bought it thinking it would be more adaptive and less messy than a regular grater. Basically you do need 2 hands to steady the container. The blades don't stay in the holder really well when in use. Also like a previous review the sliding handle doesn't allow the grating of the whole piece you are grating. Had high expectations but it's just an average utensil in my kitchen. It has a function every once and awhile. UPDATE: 12/21/21 turns out I use this everyday. It's not in my top 5 important things I use for cooking. The handle still isn't the best but every kitchen should have knife proof gloves handy. Changed my rating to 5 stars (4 stars from the adaptive point of view though. ... show more

I've used this now once or twice, and there's lots to like about the design! First off, a warning: this isn't for grating large quantities of something. You'll probably want a different kitchen tool if you need more than a cup to 1 1/2 cups of something. That's because the actual grating surface isn't that long, so you'll be doing more shorter passes for the same amount of grated material. But it comes with a useful selection of grids, including a mandoline-type slicing plate. Also comes with a "handle" to use so you're less likely to grate your fingers in the process, and to make it easier to grate certain types of food. I love grating into an enclosed container, much less mess that way. And lots of thought was clearly given to the design for how everything fits together and stores neatly. A+ grade for that! The only things I would add is that a cleaning tool would have been a nice addition, since the grids and the "handle" are tricky to get clean. Also, maybe some markings to make it more clear which way the grating plates go when getting ready to do some grating. That part's not as clear as it might be, although I did figure it out eventually. But overall, I'm glad I got this. ... show more
