Whenever asked by recent high school grads what advice we want to share related to college, the first thing we say is to "get a sturdy, insulated water bottle" and we still live by that to this day. Because when we were in college for the first 2 years, it was so easy to forget to drink water. It didn't cross our minds that staying hydrated would just drastically improve most things (mood, focus, energy, etc). College was always hectic and it was also easy and convenient to waste money at a vending machine and get a quick coke drink. But ever since owning a water bottle, it has been a physical reminder to just sip water instead of getting a sugary drink. That helped us out a lot in fighting the lingering Freshman 15 weight gain too. My wife and I were among the early owners of Owala bottles when they first came out and way before they became trendy on TikTok and became known as koala nose bottles. They were selling them at our local Sam's in a 2-pack 32 oz black and grey set. It was (and still is) an awesome water bottle and lasted us for years, even after college. Super sturdy and durable, we still have our first bottles. But because of accidental drops, the paint chipped, had scratches, and a few dents on the bottom. It still works in keeping our water cold and hot or cold and we use it to carry ice when camping or having picnic dates at the park. My wife's favorite water bottle color is white: sleek and clean design, very good looking. So I ordered this 24 oz for her as a surprise. She was very pleased. It's a smaller size than the 32 oz and she can hold and grip it better since it's smaller. This is our go-to water bottle. The only brand we use and recommend to all our friends and families. Even ordered two more for my mom and dad. I'd put ice with water in it the night before and it's still ice cold the next morning until the afternoon, and the ice still hasn't completely melted then. It's very well-insulated and very functional. When my wife was recovering from covid, I made her green tea and poured it into her Owala bottle. We didn't know it was going to retain the heat so well, even after 3 hours and would've burned her if she didn't test it first. It felt like boiling water when she dipped her fingers in. The exterior felt neutral, not warm or hot, so we didn't know. Overall, this is a heavy-duty water bottle and works incredibly well for insulating both hot and warm water. Even when dropped on wood, cement, tiles, or concrete, it retains its shape albeit a few small dents on the bottom. My wife and I will continue to use our Owala bottles and will buy new ones when the time calls. This is a great water bottle. We bought it a two years ago. We wanted something non-plastic for the kids. It has held up great (update: we had to buy a new one because a piece broke). It keeps everything cool. Is easy to unscrew. Has a straw or sip design that the kids love to use. I was fed up with the seals breaking on the other water bottles. This has two easy seals, a ring one and a spout gasket one. They both are easy to clean (update our gasket became moldy 2 years later. I don't know why. Odwalla's website says they are out of stock. Like most, I've had countless water bottles over the years, and I've never felt compelled to write a review of any of them. The owala bottles are just different. I started with a 32 oz. bottle, and quickly bought a 24 oz. bottle to go along with it. The 24 oz. bottle is more convenient as it fits bottle holders and coasters, whereas the 32 oz. is good for when I need to carry more water. The 24 oz. bottle is obviously narrower, and to make it even easier to grasp, it has flat areas on the front and back, giving you better grip. The 32 oz. bottle would probably benefit from a similar design since it has a larger circumference, but you just have to be a little more careful grabbing it. Both have the little lifting tab you can just hook your fingers through. Both have a course texture that does help with grip, as well. The simple but ingenious design of the "FreeSip" lid is what really sets these bottles apart. Sip through the straw, or turn it up. Both work great. It's also very easy to clean. Both bottled keep beverages cold as one would expect. I don't really care about keeping ice from melting for days on end, as long as the water is cold whenever I take a drink, and I've never been disappointed with either bottle. I got the Owala FreeSip 24 oz because I kept seeing people with it, and now I get the hype. The lid is genius — you can sip through the hidden straw or chug through the wide opening without swapping lids. It keeps my water ice cold for hours, even in the summer, and the stainless steel feels super durable. I’ve dropped it a couple times and it still looks brand new, no dents or leaks.
