  • excellent lightweight pack for day hiking
I wish I had switched over to this pack sooner. It's very light, well structured, surprisingly comfortable, and does exactly what I want for day-hikes, without any fussy extras. It's not too big, since you don't need a lot of gear for a 2-8 hour hike. Room for liquids, snacks, extra layer, camera, odds and ends? All fits easily. There's a top compartment where the small tools and small snacks go. Great straps-- such an upgrade from my old pack. They sit perfectly and properly flush on my shoulders, no chafing, no pressure points, good distribution. Check out that junction where the straps meet the body of the pack-- I've never seen that design on another pack. There's also a convenient carry handle on the same junction. If I load the bottom of the main compartment, or the side bottle holders, it stays well placed against my back. If it's empty, it does move around, but who carries an empty pack? Back padding and ventilation are decent, I did most of my hiking during mid-Atlantic summer, so there was plenty of sweating to test it out. Like all contoured packs, it won't stand up on its bottom-- that's expected and not a nitpick. I'm male 5'10"-ish and the pack places correctly on my back, pressing the load into my hips rather than hanging on my shoulders, without using the waist strap. Partially loaded, with just the chest strap clasped, this is the most stable, comfortable pack of any kind I've ever carried (and I've carried a dozen different travel backpacks, a couple of backpacking packs, and a half a dozen hiking packs-- not all at the same time lol). Absolutely zero complaints after carrying this for a few dozen miles. Highly Recommended. ... show more

  • hands free double shoulder purse
This smallish, sort of narrow, well organized daypack makes a great alternative to a regular purse. It’s so nice to not only have room for everything plus diaper bag items when I need them or small purchases but to have my hands free and not have all the weight of my bag on one shoulder. I can wear this pack all day and hardly notice it’s there even with a water bottle. There is the big main pocket which has a thin vertical divider across it. One side could be used for paperwork or a small laptop (my MacBook fits). It’s not padded but it is up against your back with your stuff on the other side of it so it does have some protection. There’s also a front pocket with a bunch of smaller pockets in it. This pocket is shallow but holds a lot and keeps it organized. It’s a good spot for all those little things like lip balm and wallet items. I keep a small luggage lock on the zippers if I’m going to be in a crowd but an integrated lock would be appreciated. This bag attaches to other osprey bags which is why I originally got it. I like it for travel to use as my bag on the plane then I can attach it to my porter backpack and have only one bag to carry. It works well for this purpose and means I don’t have to bring along a purse and carry on and bag for the plane for short trips. Overall there are a few things I would change, like adding some organization to the main pocket, but it’s a good bag that’s very versatile. ... show more

  • Attachment to Aether 85
I bought this as an attachment to my Aether 85 as a hydropack for day hiking away from base camp. Like others commented, this is a hydropack. I will not be using the side pockets for water bottles. Rather they will be used for wet stuff like a swim suit after taking a dip. I haven’t field tested this hydropack yet, but I’m about to take it on a week-long backpacking trip. Giving it a 4 based on my initial impressions. I will update after. Attachment: The buckle/hooks on the Daylite fit snug in the lower loops on my Aether, but the upper loops seem to be a tad loose (too long?). It will stay in place because the Aether has outer cinch straps that will run over top it. But if I didn’t have these I would just run the Daylite’s side cinch straps (with the buckle/hook) through the Aether upper loops to be sure. It would probably be okay but it’s best to not risk it popping out while hiking. This is an minor Aether loop issue, not a Daylite issue though. Color: I got the the Stone Grey Daylite hoping that it would be close to the Midnight Blue Aether. It’s not perfect but it’s close enough not to be glaringly or annoying. I can live with it. Build: Quality is the same as my Aether. Tough and durable material; good quality stitching, zippers, and buckles. The hip strap is unpadded webbing, but this is an attachment pack so that’s fine to cut weight. The chest strap has the standard whistle in the buckle. The back is lightly padded mesh for venting. And the shoulder straps are lightly padded. Again, this is an attachment pack so I don’t want all the frills of a urban pack. It seems they hit the minimum creature comforts to fit the light weight hydropack category and they still ended up with a quality pack. Fit: Pretty comfortable mucking about at home. A backpacking trip will the proof. Hydro: The hydro pocket is just barely long enough to fit my 3L CamelBak bladder. I like how the hydro bladder pocket is outside of the pack’s main storage pocket rather than instead inside it. This makes it easier to fill without needing to open the pack. Also the pocket has the standard bladder hook with buckle to fit any brand of bladder. ... show more
