Description

At the heart of any modern computer device sits the operating system and if the device is a smartphone, IoT node, data centre server or supercomputer, then this is very likely to be Linux. This textbook provides a practical introduction to the foundations of modern operating systems, with a focus on GNU/Linux and the Arm platform. It explains operating systems theory and concepts but grounds them in practical use through illustrative examples of their implementation in GNU/Linux, as well as making the connection with the Arm hardware supporting the OS functionality. • Well executed Textbook
Great book to expose university CS students to important concepts.. Recommend for architecture topics

  • Well put together book
The structure of the book is excellent, it is clear a lot of effort went into making a readable book. Every chapter has an overview and exercises. The book is not too academic and is more focused on the practical side of things, but it is pretty comprehensive and reading it you will know where to dig further. I never owned a book from ARM and I am impressed! The print is in color. Code samples have syntax coloring. Graphics are sharp, or at least enough that I can't notice (I can't tell difference between 1080p or 4k monitor). Pictures are nice to have but they are a bit blurry and have that obvious printer not meant for printing pictures look. Get the book, it's high quality for a reasonable price. ... show more
