The invaluable handbook for acing your on-camera appearanceOn-Camera Coach is your personal coach for becoming great on camera. From Skype interviews and virtual conferences to shareholder presentations and television appearances, this book shows you how to master the art of on-camera presentation to deliver your message clearly, effectively, and with confidence. Fear of public speaking is common, but even the most seasoned speakers freeze in front of a single lens―being on camera demands an entirely new set of skills above and beyond the usual presentation to an audience you can actually see. It requires special attention to the way you move, the way you speak, and even the way you dress. This book provides the guidance and tools you need to ace it every time.Video is powerful, and it is everywhere; corporate YouTube channels, webinars, virtual meetings, TedTalks, and more are increasingly turning the lens on those who typically remain behind the scenes. This relatively recent trend will continue to expand as media plays a larger role in business, and the ability to appear confident, authoritative, and polished is becoming a necessary job skill. This book shows you everything you need to know about being on camera, from preparation through presentation and beyond.Learn how to prepare for an on-camera appearanceTailor your presentation to on-camera demands Discover how the camera interprets wardrobe and body languageAppear dynamic, confident, and engaged when the lens points your wayThe lens captures everything―the awkward pauses, the nervous fidgets, poor posture, and every false start and mistake is captured for posterity. • You need this book
With her clear, concise prose, and her warmly encouraging tone, Karin has written an indispensable guide to improving your performance in a variety of video scenarios. Think you don't need this book because you've never needed to be in front of a camera? Think again. As Karin explains, our world is becoming more dependent on visual components, ranging from videoconferencing, to video web content creation, to Skype interviews. So, nowadays, everyone needs this book. The chapters are designed to sequentially build your skills, as you reinforce the learning process with exercises that are carefully constructed so that you can easily conduct a self-analysis on your progress. Exercises may sound like a drag, but they are not at all. It is amazing to do the exercise and watch yourself inadvertently doing the things that Karin cautions against. There are tips at the end of each exercise that help you to correct those aspects of your performance, so when you do the exercise again, you see real improvement. It's not only the exercises that are beneficial, however. Karin practices what she preaches with respect to content - the major takeaways in each chapter are easy to grasp and remember. Her writing is enlivened not only with interesting case studies, but also with stories from her own experiences with public speaking and on-camera work. Lest you think that she was always a polished performer, she'll disabuse you of that pretty quickly with some funny tales from her early years. In short, this is a book that will both inform you and entertain you, while lighting the path toward developing a better relationship with the ubiquitous camera lens. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Get Comfortable with Modern Messaging
So I'll be honest: I have not read this book. But I have taken her class and it is fantastic. While I have always been comfortable on stage and in front of large audiences, video flummoxed me - I wasn't sure what to do with my hands, where to look, what to wear.......Karin fixed all of that for me. I got rave reviews on my first "real" video at work - professionally produced, shot in a studio, etc. - and I owe it all to Karin. So if you can't take her class in person, definitely get the book! ... show more
