Let's be clear about where these are to be used: on the sides of the bow of a boat, NOT on the deck as the instructions indicate, one of the pictures shows, and as several reviews show. Only then will they be visible correctly for other boats. As far as the waterproof claim, not for a second. Yes, the base has a seal when the lens presses onto it which is nice. But the lens has a hole in it to mount the whole fixture and water can easily run into the middle of the fixture. In addition, the base has 4 holes in it, one for the mounting screw, one for the wires and 2 for unknown purposes. These all sit on a rubbery gasket between the light and the surface it is mounted to, but the whole thing does not compress enough to seal the holes. Lastly, the LEDs, 8 clusters of 3 each are bright, but are not potted. If water gets in there, and it will, they cannot last long with power, especially in salt environment. I plan to caulk the assembly everywhere when installing it, leave a drain facing down, and hope for the best. I have started a bench test to check for early-life failure before installing these on my boat. ... show more
