Once I realized I have to plug the cable OUT to the midi IN and vice versa perfectly for me. I had just assumed they were labeled for which input. I used it for an older Yamaha digital piano that doesn’t have usb midi. Running on a Mac book pro it recognized it immediately. I reccomend.

I bought this because I wanted to use it for the Oculus pianovision app. If you have a piano with a midi out, you can use this device to allow the app to know what keys you are hitting when you are playing/practicing!! I have been a long learner of the piano very slow to pick it up, and this midi connector will help me practice getting better. Now because the app and my piano are connected, it will stop and wait until I hit the correct key before moving on to the next key. I didn't have to download any additional drivers, just plugged it in to the out of the piano and the out to the in of the piano and the other end into the USB C on the oculus headset!! I use it to connect my digital piano to my Motorola Android phone's USB-C port for lessons on the Yousician app, and it works perfectly. It also works with my PC. One important detail: I need to plug the MIDI to USB converter into the phone first, then the piano. This signals the phone to output power to the converter to run it. If I plug into the piano first, the converter will not power up after plugging into the phone. Overall, I definitely recommend it! ... show more

I am using this product to connect my guitar effects board to MacBook or iPad. When I connect the MIDI side first, the blue light doesn’t always light and my device doesn’t recognize my board. I have to disconnect and reconnect one of the MIDIs to make it connect. I wish this was more passive. I don’t understand the need for the connection light; seems like an unnecessary middle man. The cable itself is decent quality. For the money, it does what I want it to do and doesn’t lose connection. I just might upgrade sooner than later. ... show more

I like it because it works on my older Yamaha Motif 7. I am sure it will work on more modern MIDI applications, but let's face it -- we all have some good old stuff that needs support, and this product does it. I RECOMMEND IT!
