Frequently asked questions

The Numark DJ2GO2 is designed to be used with the Serato DJ Intro software. This software is included with the controller. It provides a highly intuitive interface, perfect for beginners, while still offering advanced features for professional DJs.

The headphone cueing feature allows DJs to listen to tracks privately before playing them live. This is essential for beat matching and ensuring seamless transitions between tracks. The built-in audio interface is a feature that enables the DJ to connect headphones, speakers, and a computer to the controller without needing an external sound card.

Pad Performance Controls allow DJs to manipulate tracks in a unique and creative way. These include triggering samples, looping parts of tracks, and adding effects. Different modes and parameters can be accessed by using shift button along with these pads.

Yes, the Numark DJ2GO2 has a Jogwheel, also known as a scratch wheel, that can be used to mimic the sound of scratching on vinyl. However, keep in mind that this is a smaller controller, so the overall scratching experience might not be the same as it is on full-sized vinyl turntables.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The reviews highlight that Numark DJ2GO2 is a functional piece of hardware for experienced DJs but requires additional software licensing and can manifest a crackling noise when used with certain devices. Customers stated the bundled software, Serato, requires a license and isn't always ideal for file management, and they preferred using Virtual DJ instead. They reported annoying crackling noise when connecting the DJ controller to windows laptops and MacBooks, resulting in usability being dependent on battery life or specific hardware configurations.

Pros

  • 🎵 High-quality build and functionality of the controller
  • 🎵 Compatibility with Virtual DJ
  • 🎵 Supports both Windows and MacOS, but works better with particular configurations

Cons

  • 🔊 Crackling noise reported when connected to some devices, especially when charging
  • 💾 The pre-packaged Serato software requires a license and has potential file management issues
  • 💻 The product may not be beginner-friendly due to required setup and potential compatibility issues

Should I Buy It?

If you're an experienced DJ with the patience to navigate software licensing and potential hardware compatibility issues, this product may still be a solid purchase for you. However, beginners or those planning to use it with certain devices may find the product challenging to use due to sound distortion and lack of free or accessible software options. Therefore, purchase should be considered regarding your expertise level and device setup.

  • Serato software is not free, noisy from my Windows laptops
Style: Old Model
I've been a DJ for several decades, I've had a lot of gear. I bought this to control Virtual DJ on one laptop, so I don't have to bring 2 laptops to my volunteer radio show. The software this comes bundled with is Serato, and you have to download it online, so don't buy this if you need it right away, there's a setup time you'll need to account for. Once you've installed Serato, you'll discover that the license is finite. I don't use Serato, because you can't access your folders from it, and I have a lot of music in folders on my hard drive that I need to be able to access from the program I use. Virtual DJ is a better software for what I do, but you need to buy a $50 license to use it with this controller. The first laptop I plugged it into is my main music laptop (Win10), though I keep my music on an external 2Tb drive. There was a crackling noise coming through the speakers whenever the laptop was plugged in to power. Nope. My second laptop running Windows had the same issue. Not usable unless you have a killer battery. My 2011 MBP works well with it, but I hate to use it as my music laptop because when it dies, I won't buy another Apple, because of their stance on Right to Repair, and they suck as a company, making the user buy endless adapters, and their warranty is awful. I'm putting together an All-In-One Win10 desktop to see how that works, but I'll have to cart it to the radio station every time I play, which isn't ideal. I may end up getting a touchscreen laptop with a good battery to use for this. So: nice hardware, does what it's supposed to, not from every computer, and not with free software. And probably not for beginners, unless they are very patient and have a stack of laptops to play with. Update after 1 month: I bought Virtual DJ's $49 license to use this at home. The controller has been working very well, and feels solid despite being made of plastic. Definitely liking the hardware so far, and it works perfectly with Virtual DJ. I'd recommend Numark cut a deal with Virtual DJ and offer a bundle, as many new users will be stuck with a trial version of Serato, which is harder to aquire & use. 4 year update: I havea weekly radio show <>3 hours. After 4 years the tempo slider started randomly seeing changes even when I was not touching it, making it impossible to use for professional work. It worked great for 4 years though, with Virtual DJ free software ($50 license). I replaced it with the new DJ2GO2Touch which crackles, so I sent it back, got a new unit which also crackles. So: onto another brand, likely the Pioneer DJ DDJ-200 until Numark gets their shit together. ... show more

  • Emits crackling noise right out of the box.
Style: Old Model
The controller emitted a crackling noise when connected to my MacBook Pro using Virtual DJ 2018 or my iPhone using Djay. I sent a recording to NuMark customer service and they authorized a return for repairs or replacement. I wish they had just done an even exchange like most items on Amazon. This is going to to take two weeks until their techs determine what is wrong. I do like using this controller but this is really inconvenient because I have a gig next week. UPDATE: 3 weeks later and I finally get the unit back from NV. Right out of the box know I received the unit yesterday. When I plugged it in right out of the box the crackling noise was there as loud as before. I am using a Mac Book Pro with a 2.26 gtz processor and 8 gbs of ram. The audio setting on the Mac was at zero. I am running the Virtual DJ 2018 program. I also tried it with my iPhone 7 using the djay app. Same thing. This was very disappointing considering the shipping time to exchange this unit. I contacted Amazon and they approved a return and refund which is what I should have done in the first place. I ordered a new one which comes tomorrow. I really like this unit despite the problems. Hopefully the new one will be ok but if not I will have to look at other brands. Update: Got the new piece today. Still emits crackling sound when connected to my MAC BOOK or IPhone. I was able to use a second sound card along with the DJ2GO2 and there was no crackling. I then connected it to my Windows 10 laptop using Virtual DJ 2018. There was no crackling. I wonder if there is an issue with Apple devices? I’ve contacted NuMark about this am waiting for their reply. Update: The people at NuMark think it might be an issue with OS in my Mac (El Capitan) not being compatible with the controller. I have done some research and here’s what I’ve found. I cannot upgrade past El Capitan because my refurbished MacBook Pro is a 2009 model so I’m stuck with this OS. I just bought this Mac to use with the DJ2GO2. It had all the features I needed, 2.26 ghz, 1tb hard drive, 8 gbs Ram. And it was a good price. I thought this would be sufficient to run the controller and Virtual DJ 2018. I didn’t realize this would be an issue. I was thinking of returning this to Amazon and trying the Hercules Starlight Controller but I purchased a license from VDJ for the DJ2GO2 which is not transferable to another controller. I think I will keep this and use it as a midi controller using the built in sound card on my Mac and a headphone splitter or use my other outboard sound card with it. Either way it works fine. I like using this controller. I think it is well designed. I feel that I have had 3 of these and they all have that issue so what’s the chances of getting 3 bad ones? It must be a setting or something that I am not aware of yet. What is disappointing is that I can’t use it with my phone because there is no way to use it like that without using the DJ2GO2 sound card which emits that crackling sound. I spent $40 getting that Apple camera controller just for this purpose. What is most disappointing is that NuMark can’t identify this issue. I am not the only one who has reported this On Amazon. ... show more
