  • I like this bag
This bag held up well to a week long canoe trip. Didn't get to test out the waterproofness of the bag, but I am confident it would keep things dry on a submersion event. Roll down top, side straps and over the top straps cinched down make for a secure pack. I imagine the head strap is a nice touch for portages it seems like it would distribute weight and pressure well. Stuffing and strapping everything in, I never heard any stitches pop, so I think it's well made. I a bit fat 5'11' 270, the waist buckle almost runs out of strap length to get around my gut. The wet pack on the back side is a nice touch as well. Good spot for aerosols and fuel canisters or anything else you wouldn't want spraying inside your pack or contaminating your food barrel ... show more

  • Durable, but some problems
Group outing in the Boundry Waters for eight days. Our group had three of the North49 Canoe packs. all held up well, except for mine. The clasps on the hip belt and one tension strap broke about three days in. The tension strap still held, but the hip belt clasp did not hold. The bags held quite a bit of gear. Overall, a good bag for canoe outings. ... show more

  • Poor quality buckles
Very poor quality buckles and straps, I had some snaps break without even putting a load in it, very disappointing.

  • Big bag that can actually hold supplies
We purchased this bag for aquatic sampling gear. Not many other bags on Amazon were right for the job, but this one is great! It holds a Hess Net plus other gear without issue. The fold-down top is a great feature, since you can fit virtually anything in the bag. It is actually comfortable to carry on your back, but for long periods of time, it may be uncomfortable. Although it is not a "backpacking" backpack, carrying something for an hour or so would be doable. ... show more

  • Great Pack…Not So Great Buckles
Overall, this pack is pretty good for the money, and lays flat and perfect across the bottom of the canoe between the gunwales when packed properly. The bag itself is pretty durable, and definitely waterproof when sealed up tightly. The main drawback is the cheap, plastic buckles. They just can’t hold up to stress. I took this pack on a 10-day canoe trip in the Northern Quetico, and I ended up breaking half the buckles when cinching the straps down tightly. Luckily, I had plenty of 550 cord and several carabiners with slide locks to replace the broken buckles. The buckles also pop loose when there’s too much strain on them. My suggestion…buy the pack and replace the plastic buckles with aluminum. And, if you’re portaging through any brush…leave the external pack in your car. ... show more

  • Solid Pack
Just got two of these for a Canada trip my family has coming up. I'm experienced with dry bags. I do a ton of camping, kayaking, etc. The material seems just like every other decent dry bag. Tons of space. One of these bags held myself and a friends gear for an entire week in the bush. The only things we couldn't fit was our food and clothes. (Hence why I got two). Hip support is good. Sturdy shoulder straps. Note: This hasn't been on a trip yet. But if I don't write another review, it held up nicely. ... show more

I am giving 5 stars on the assumption the product holds up during use. As of this review I haven't put the pack to use yet. It appears to be very well made with extra strength in areas needed. It is an enormous pack (120L, what would you expect). There seem to be plenty of points to of connection for added gear to the outside of the pack, including tent/trec pole straps. It has a tumpline which I hear is a great feature. I may update this in June after our canoe trip. ... show more
