These are often called "grandpa" shoes because they look a little clunky but they are still the best shoes I have found for exercise classes and basketball in that they are extremely stable through the last and I have not had an ankle turn since I started wearing them yeas ago. The bottoms of my feet are sensitive with minor neuropathy and these shoes fit wonderfully and wrap the foot well. The pivot point is great for people who take a cardio, Jazzercise, Shine, or equivalent class in that it facilitates turns, spins, and rapid direction changes. I do have to get a full size larger in Nike shoes (in all Nike clothes for that matter). After a couple of months of heavy use these Air shoes will start to squeak, often quite loudly, well before they wear out. I simply remove the lining from the shoes and put baby or other talcum powder into the tiny holes under the lining and work it into the holes. This has served me well for years to stop the squeak and it has the additional benefit of freshening up my shoes. I have tried numerous shoe brands over the years and the only shoe that came close to the comfort and stability of this shoe is the Strutter from Adidas, which is no longer made to my knowledge and didn't last as long anyway. One thing Nike could do better is to more firmlyvsecure the sole to the body of the shoe. The glue used by Nike to secure the rubber part of the sole is the first part of the shoe to fail, especially if these shoes get wet regularly from rain or wet grass or even puddles when going to and from your car and the gym classes. I can normally get 6 to 8 months out of the shoes and I have at least 8 one hour classes of various intensity a week (and I do my best to keep the bottoms dry!). For those who wear orthotics, these shoes take them well whether they are heel focused, toe focused, or cover the whole foot. I now wear Goodfeet orthotics and they are quite comfortable in this shoe.

Ordered these for my son in size 13. He needed a wide fitting athletic shoe that is also durable. Nike has always been the best brand for that. They look great and he says they are very comfortable and remarked that they have a nice wide fit.

I bought the Nike Air Monarch shoes a little over 3 years ago and just recently ordered 2 more pairs to make sure I’d have these shoes for a long time to come. Great walking shoes and good for various sports. LIGHT WEIGHT - these are very light weight shoes, which is key for walking long distances and every additional ounce to a shoe will tire you out faster. GREAT ARCH SUPPORT - these shoes are comfortable because of the great arch support which gives you better spring in your step. SQUEAKY? - some of the reviews say these shoes squeak a little - my new ones do not squeak. HOWEVER because I’ve had a pair of these shoes for 3 years, I can give you a QUICK remedy if they do: lift out the sole lining inside the shoe and sprinkle in some baby powder, shake it and mix it into the inside of the shoe and shake out excess powder, then replace the sole lining. DONE - SQUEAKY ISSUE FIXED. Here’s the thing: these shoes WILL squeak if water or moisture gets into the soles. The above is the quick permanent remedy (until the shoes get soaked again). The comfort and ease of mobility with these shoes makes it worth having to occasionally put the baby powder to use if the shoes get very wet.

This model shoe has been around for a long time. Years ago, when the sale price went up to the regular price (33% price increase), I stopped buying them. With the temporary 25% discount, its a good value. They are substantial, have a good tread, and offer cushioning while walking. Years ago, the bright white was the style. Now it stands out. And the black is not discreet either. Wish they offered a medium gray version.

After weeks of use, the Nike Air Monarch IV Training Shoes have proven themselves as an incredibly reliable choice for both casual wear and intense workouts. What immediately impressed me was the level of cushioning and arch support—you can feel the difference right out of the box, and there’s virtually no break-in period required. The insole and midsoles absorb impact extremely well, making the shoes comfortable even after standing or walking for hours.
