These shoes are the best I've found for heavy-duty walking. They give great support, are very comfortable, the most durable and keep my feet well. I do have to change it the inserts with the red ones for people with flat feet, but they are the best. I keep trying it other shoes, but these always outperform all the others to-date. If I ever find a better shoe, I will update this review.

I have tried every brand of training, walking, and aerobic shoe and I finally found a shoe that can stand up to my active exercise lifestyle. I used to turn my ankle a few times a year with other shoes and my metatarsal would be sore to the touch at least once a month. Since I have been wearing these Air Monarchs, I have not turned an ankle and my metatarsal is never sore. I have recently started using orthotics for my other shoes and they fit perfectly in the Air Monarchs with plenty of toe room. The last in these shoes is very strong and the shoes will retain form anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on how many classes you take a week. If you workout indoors, the soles will not breakdown. I have pronounced pronation so I tend to wear out shoe soles quickly when I walk a lot, but indoors the first part of the shoe to age is the last and the shoes start to provide less support. The ball area has a round sole support which is good for spinning, turning, and other jazzercize moves. I also tend to wear holes in the toe area. Because these shoes are leather, toe wear is non-existent. I highly recommend these shoes for any type of aerobic exercise. I finally zeroed in on a size comfortable for me that is one size larger than my regular shoe size, primarily because I wear thick socks when I exercise which helps stimulate blood return as I am considered beyond middle age and my feet can swell more often. I would recommend you try shoe sizes before you buy. I order one size up on all Nike gear from experience.

I’m over 50 and need a sneaker that is really comfortable, is deep enough for my orthotics without removing the insert and doesn’t “roll” when I walk. This is 100% the best all purpose sneaker out there.

I bought these for basketball because it seems that no shoe manufacturer makes specifically wide widths in basketball shoes, much less any width that even comes close to fitting my Fred Flintstone feet. And running shoes don't provide the support I apparently need. I tried the "wide" basketball shoes recommended by various websites (LeBrons, TMacs, Dames, etc.) but it was like trying to put my 6-year-old's shoes on. To be fair, I haven't tried New Balance's bball shoes--they don't come in wide widths specifically, but NB tends to run wider overall. However, I could not bring myself to wear a shoe whose design looks like it was stolen from a billboard in the background of any random scene in Blade Runner. The Monarchs are comfortable with excellent cushioning. I normally wear a 4E in New Balance and Clarks, and a wide in Keens, and the width on these works very well for me, which is the most important feature for me. Overall, I find they're quite...padded, for lack of a better word--especially in the tongue and upper. So they might require a tiny bit of breaking in. My only complaint is that the insole is very thin and I'm not sure if it's intended to be removed. I did remove it to check, and I could tell that I was separating a layer of weak adhesive; the insoles came out perfectly intact, though, and I have since reinstalled them with no issues. I normally would wear a custom orthotic with these, but it seems like it might be a tight squeeze. I haven't tried that yet, as my orthotics are pretty rigid, and it's clear that being away from the court for 10 years has had an effect on my knees that the cushioning helps mitigate. And OK, yes: These are the quintessential dad shoes. There's no getting around that. But I'm a middle-aged dad who's not playing ball with a bunch of teenagers. I also don't really care that much what other people think of something that has absolutely nothing to do with them. So the math on that is fairly easy to do. Admittedly, though, I bought the all-black version and added a set of blue laces, which sort of (?) begins to maybe make them look slightly cooler. I'm very happy with my purchase, overall.

I really like that these Nike Monarchs give terrific support for the ankle area. They also run true to size, and after buying these for the last several years the sizing stays the same instead of deviating and changing. I can always rest assure these Nike Monarchs will fit time after time.

I've been a pharmacy technician for over 25 years (both retail & hospital)....which means I'm on my feet all day long. Nike Air Monarchs ARE THE ONLY SHOES that get the job done for me. Over the years, I tried various other brands (some cheaper, some more expensive)...but none compare to the Air Monarch. They are well worth the money and if you can catch them on sale on Amazon....even better. There is one caveat however -and to some people it may be a deterrent- they have a tendency to squeak rather loudly as you walk. This hasn't happened in ALL the pairs I've owned...but it has happened in a lot of them. Because they are "AIR" Monarchs, there are cushions of air bubbles in the soles. This is what makes them so comfortable. I recommended them to a fellow pharmacy technician and he loved them....but he couldn't handle the squeaks. I went online to see if there was a solution to this problem and found that some people removed the insoles and placed powder in the shoe and re-inserted the insole. I didn't want to go to all of this trouble, so I tried foot powder or baking soda sprinkled throughout the shoes. The powder eventually works its way around and underneath as you walk. In most instances, this solves the problem. Another downside is durability. As noted above, I am on my feet all day and do a lot of walking. I'm lucky if I can get a year's use out of a pair. But for normal use, they are just fine...if you can handle the squeaking!
