The media could not be loaded. Our son has been flying smaller indoor drones and beginner outside drones with low image quality fixed cameras that were starting to collect dust on the garage shelves. Replacing the batteries for these older models was a scavenger hunt on both the large auction site and amazon. Both of us were ready to move up to the intermediate or non-professional level. I selfishly selected this model to avoid the $500 to $1k price tag on those models in the warehouse club or yellow price tag electronics store. So far this has been a great purchase and wanted to mention highlights that may not be getting the attention. - Packaging: The professionally decorated white box has color stock photos of the drone with icons and graphics that list all the features and functions for the drone. This looks like you purchased it at the retail outlets so it can be sent to others as a gift using a different address at checkout. - Carrying Bag: The included bag is a great design and shape for both fashion and function. The case is a stylish black and grey combination with an embossed XiL logo at the top flap just under the carrying handle. Handle consists of a soft material where we slide our fingers and allows for a firm grasp to carry like a lunch box. A shoulder strap option is available that clips on to the sides and can be carried over the shoulder or across the chest like a messenger bag. The cut out molded inserts hold both batteries, the Drone, controller, and a spot for the detachable collision detection module. The inside pocket is the entire top flap that is mesh with a zipper at the upper 3/4 mark. We keep the charging cable and tiny philips screwdriver in that pocket. I also added a small flat head to the pocket to use for popping off the top section for the obstacle detection module. A nested zipper pocket is located on the outside to store the manual flat, some paper currency and a copy of our FAA UAS printed card. - Charging: Both the remote and drone batteries charge using the industry standard microUSB to Type A cable. No Wall adapter is provided but that is not an issue since I have so many portable power stations and wall plugs for all our recreational rechargeable battery powered devices. - Startup and synch: Beginner drones have the quick up and down of the flight throttle to synch the remote to the drone. Since this unit is more advanced it has additional steps. The steps are not clearly marked on the remote so I decided to print some dynex labels for the camera upper right to perform the direction rotations, then the upper left for another calibration, and then the dual joystick movements to start the propellers ( only if the first two steps were completed correctly ) - Flight: We first started with only using the remote controller for our test flights. Unfortunately we always against some wind but was able to still get some great flight training. We learned both by trial and error along with asking questions on the product listing / email to manufacturer that in order to use the microSD card the app and smartphone has to be connected. -App: The app provides a great birds eye view and additional functions that are not available on the manual rechargeable controller. This controller has a great LCD display and the app provides even more stats and controls. The app is the best method to capture photos and videos. The Follow me mode and circle around a point is available when using the app. -Camera and Gimbal protection: This is noteworthy since the gimbal has stabilization to prevent jello shaking effect and allows to move the camera direction while i flight. With great functionality comes great liability of this portion to be damaged so this setup includes an easy to snap on / off protector that we keep in the zipper carrying bag when the drone is up in the air. ... show more

Update: Good all around drone. As you gain Exp you'll find you don't need obstacle avoidance, but flying a drone with GPS is super easy compared to one of those beginner drones without. Great bang for the buck, but there are no accessories for lenses., I've been getting into some modding with this one and it's fun. ______ Owned the drone since the beginning of the month. No issues until today when it STOPPED RESPONDING altogether while in flight. It suddenly shot straight up in the air for 20+ meters without responding to the remote or phone. The drone slowed down... peaked... then dropped like a stone still unresponsive. It landed really hard on a dirt road. It hasn't flown the same since and the gimbal won't stay straight. And to be honest, I'm afraid to fly it. Emailed X-Toys customer service via Amazon, they asked for my phone... didn't give theirs. No response since. It's been a week. To me, that's a no-show. It should be a deal breaker for you. I researched every drone in the from $400 down and this drone beat them all. It also surpassed my expectations for someone getting into it for fun and photography. However, the feeling you get when your beloved SG906 MAX flies to the moon then crashes to earth before your very eyes. The feeling you get when $300 just flies away and nothing you do can stop it. Well, it makes you want to talk to customer service. Customer service, if you read this, please reach out to me. Thanks! EDIT: Returned thru Amazon without any help from Customer Service. They did send me an email but it was not helpful. STILL, I love the drone. Got a new replacement and that's what I'm rating. Took 1 star off because some of the features on the remote are a little confusing. I received this a little over a week ago. I calibrated it and flew it several times with both the RC and the app. This is my second drone with the first being a DJI Phantom IV that I still have. I just wanted something smaller to carry with me on short trips more easily. I took it out today to fly it in a park adjacent to a restaurant where I had dinner. The first flight was short. I didn't attach the obstacle avoidance and it never left my sight. I then attached the OSS and flew it from the app. Both the drone and the RC were still fully charged. It took off and I flew it up and out away from me. The second i was about to lose sight of it I ended entered the return home command. The camera on the app went blank and the RC showed the battery on the drone was dead. It also showed that it had lost its WiFi connection and with a dead battery there was no way to establish connection or to see where it landed. The park where it took off was in a neighborhood of densely packed zero lot line homes. After walking around there a bit I quickly realized that I'd just watched nearly $400 disappear from sight never to be seen again. The battery was fully charged and my first flight was less than 3 minutes long. The second flight shows in the log to have lasted11 minutes so there should've been ample charge left. Besides, it's supposed to come back when and if the battery gets so low that it wouldn't make it home otherwise. Very disappointed and glad this dish my happen with a $1200 DJI Mavik. Something tells me it just wouldn't have occurred with that drone anyway. ... show more

I like this drone a lot. It works as it is supposed to. One small issue, for me, is that the range is eally short. When doing the waypoint flying, the range is much shorter than advertised. The primary problem I have is that one of the batteries does not fully charge. It barely charges enough for a 10 minute flight. ... show more
