At first I was a little skeptical, but after fiddling around with the controls, I find these have a wonderful breakup and my strat just absolutely loves them. BIG thanks to TONAL TUBES for providing a variety of tubes at a reasonable $$. These replaced the stockers in the front end of a head, and you get what you expect from TungSol: Great sounding, all-around tubes that don't lean real hi-gain or real lo-gain. Just great sounding across the spectrum and versatile enough in their sound to cover everything.

I can't compare these to other tubes because I got them for a Crate V1512 I picked up for cheap recently. The amp sounded pretty good I thought, but had the original tubes from 2001 in it. I ordered these and a pair of EXH EL84s and these arrived first. After throwing in the pre amp tubes it was like a completely different amp. Way more gain and significantly louder. Definitely an upgrade over the 19 year old groove tubes that were in there.

Not much to add other than the title. I didn't play the amp enough to get this in the return window but I started noticing a drop in gain and popping. I ended up putting the old tubes back in and everything worked perfectly. I opened the amp up and took each of the three tubes and put them in the V1 position. One tube worked perfectly, a second had no gain and was very quite, the third produced no sound at all. I repeated the test and duplicated it exactly. 66% fail rate, totally unacceptable.

Along with a matched set of Tung Sol EL84's I am rocking again. Not the traditional GT's but still Russian work horses with low noise and very sweet to my ears.
