  • Amazing shoe, only outdone by the newer v4
When I broke my foot, my sports ortho said getting this model NB or Hoka would allow me to get back into activity quicker (along with a carbon plate) due to the wedge drop from back to front allowing momentum to roll forward and then the raised front allowing that rollout to continue, which minimizes impact. The wedge shape also allowed more cushion in the back further reducing impact during a stride. That was the fresh foam more v1. It was a game changer and allowed me to run through the broken foot and other knee injuries that otherwise would've put me out. When both of my v1's wore out the v3 was out so I tried those and they were a huge leap forward which I didn't know was possible. I'm now in these v4's and they are even better yet! It's not as big a difference as it was going v1 to v3, but it's still noticable and highly recommended if you want to stay active but can't take the impact due to injuries or conditions. I recommended them to a highschool student that was very fast on her track team and set to get a track scholarship, but due to an unrelated injury could no longer run. After getting these she's back in it and looking to continue in college. I can't overstate how awesome these shoes are. Sizing: I have both the Men's 11 and Women's 12W and they fit the same. Both are 'D' width. NB has a chart on their website of their widths, so if you cross reference then couple that with the knowledge that there's one number difference in size between their mens and womens, you can use that to go with whichever is on sale. For example, I got the women's 12D for $89 on amazon where the men's 11 was $159. (Normally men and women have a difference of 2 between their sizes, so a woman's 10 should be a men's 8, but with NB, or at least this model of NB, the women's 10 is a men's 9.) ... show more

  • I love these shoes
Update: So after walking more with my custom orthodics in, these shoes don't work with them after all. The toebox is too shallow to accommodate the little bit of added height, and my toe and bunion were in pain. I'll need to find some thin, good, insoles once the cheap foam ones that come with the shoes don't work anymore. Also, after walking more, I've found that it's a little bit of a struggle to walk fast. The sole is just so high. Normal walking is good, but these high foam soles drag me back when I want to walk fast. _____________________ So far so good! These are like walking on clouds, and very lightweight. They're deep enough for orthodics. They fit well. I'm really loving them. Plus I really like the washed henna color. These and the New Balance 990 are my favorites so far. I changed the shoelaces to elastic ones, too bad there aren't matching color elastic laces. The original laces do have a tiny stretch to them, but not enough. ... show more

  • Love the style, not the best quality
4 stars because I love the style of this shoe. The grey color or "overcast/ champagne metallic/ sea salt" was exactly the neutral color I was searching for and is so pretty in person. I love that there are other pretty colors to choose from as well. As far as quality for New Balance these are more of a 3. There is not much cushioning at all. I would not recommend these for avid runners who need a lot of impact resistance. The "foam insole" that comes with them are kind of a joke. It is literally just a thin cheap piece of foam with a tiny bend in it that is supposed to be arch support. On the plus side, it is easily removable so you can put your own inserts in which was a must for me. The fabric is also thin so I can see my big toe when I walk. Sizes run a bit small so if you are between sizes order up. I wear a 7 in sandals and heels, and a 7 1/2 or 8 in tennis shoes. I tried both on, and definitely went with the 8. Overall these were a somewhat fair price, cute, and comfortable with my own inserts so I am happy with them. ... show more

  • These shoes are exactly what I wanted and feel great!
I first saw these shoes at Kohls but they didn't have my size to try on. I liked the color scheme/look so much that I looked for them on Amazon (and found them for less). After reading the reviews, I was somewhat hesitant on buying or of if they'd fit and feel as I wanted or be comfortable. There are mixed reviews of people saying "new balance isn't what it once was, hard as a rock, not comfortable, etc" - But, I took a chance and I'm SO GLAD I did! I absolutely love these shoes. They feel better than my current Nikes and older New Balance. They fit great, look exactly as expected, beautiful colors (I picked the purple/black) and are very comfortable with a lightweight feel. They feel as a tennis shoe would most likely be expected to, but better to me. I find them light and comfy and the fresh foam is referring to the material of the shoe itself not the insole. It seems as though some are expecting to be walking on some super cushioned, squishy bottoms based on their review and not only do they not advertise anything like that, I've rarely found tennis that feel that way without buying insole inserts. If you're looking for a great tennis shoe, that feels light and comfortable, then I recommend. I do not stand on my feet all day long, but do wear these to hike and trail walk in and I love them. I typically am a 9.5 regular womens with Nikes but always have to order a 10 for New Balance, so I ordered a 10 and it's perfect. Doesn't push on my toes. I recommend going up a half size from what you'd wear if Nike/Adidas. BTW, I rarely write reviews on Amazon, but felt I needed to because I love this shoe so much! ... show more

  • Totally inconsistent quality, but great shoes when they ARE quality; read more
So, I purchased my first set of these back in May 2019 after having been completely let down by the literal break down of my previous set of NBs (see my reviews for info if curious) and having tried on multiple other shows from NB that didn’t fit correctly. When I tried my first pair of these on...oh my gosh, HEAVEN! The uppers are made well to hug your feet, they breath, they’re legitimately a wide shoe, the tongues are wide enough, and there’s a proper extra hole at the top for tying a runners/heel lock with laces more than long enough to do so. I was totally in love with these shoes. A couple months later, when I had to get an in shoe heel lift for my leg length discrepancy, which I inserted UNDER the NB insole, the shoes were still phenomenal. Basically, within a week of purchasing my first set, I KNEW I wanted a second backup set to spread the wear/use across (6 days of lifting and 1-2 of cardio every week, plus 4-7 days of light-heavy gardening). These shoes finally went on hella sale the last few hours or so of Prime Day this year, so I ordered set #2 and another heel lift. Immediately when I pulled the second set from the box, I could tell visibly they were different, and putting them on only confirmed it. For starters, I could see and then confirm that the laces on set 2 are MUCH shorter than set 1 (but still long enough to manage a heel lock with a stubby bow/tie. Further, I saw the insoles were hooved up in both shoes, like they were too large for the shoe they were in. I thought no biggie, they’d eventually chill the hell out and stay in their places...over a month later, nope, they still hoove out as soon as you remove your feet. What I REALLY had come to love about this shoe, that the uppers begin to really form to your feet and, because of this, my heels (even the one with a 5/8” lift under it) stay in the shoe with no issues when I’ve got planks-based exercises written into my workouts, or when my trainer decides she wants to close with a 10min yoga flow. Compared to several other gym shoes I’ve owned and tried all these things with, set 1 was the only one that truly allowed me to have success and comfort with mixed styles of strength and cardio training because my feet, particularly heels, stay in my shoe no matter what. Set 2 though? Not as great. 6wks in and the shoe with the heel lift almost never keeps my heel locked in place, while the other shoe is about a 50/50 chance. Set 2 has not molded to my feet the same as set 1 (which were molded to my feet within the week, only fitting better every day since). It’s worth noting that I bought literally the EXACT SAME SHOE: black & gold size 12W. I only know which R & L shoe go together for set 1 & set 2 because of how differently set 2 is made: shorter laces, insoles that always hoove out. Don’t make the same mistake I did, should you receive a set of questionable quality. I put set 2 on assuming it’d work out its kinks and hit the gym, putting wear on the soles immediately, but here we are. Just send them back and try again, because if you get a well made set, the shoes are TRULY life changing! (I’ll add some photos when I get a chance, so as to document the visible differences.) ... show more

  • One of the best pairs of shoes I have ever owned
I am a bit of a shoe fanatic. When Im out anywhere I am always looking at what shoes people wear. Ive owned the best of every brand. I have owned New Balance on and off and they were always good shoes but not great shoes. That has changed with these shoes. New Balance has made some really cool improvements to their shoes. First off, the Fresh Foam is amazingly comfortable and lightweight. They have also made a really cool heal that is comfortable and durable. The heal makes putting them on much easier and along with the mid sock like liner, they fit like a sock. They are very comfortable and provide great support. Ive had a couple of pairs of shoes that really stood out as game changers. The first Nike Air Max's were like that. Some of the Hokas (especially the Bondi model) changed the game for sure. These are my newest WOW! shoes. They are amazing. New Balance has a legend in this model. I hope it joins the other legacy shoes they maintain in their line up. I love that about New Balance, they stick with what works. ... show more

  • GREAT shoe but size up
I LOVE my new pink shoes. They were definitely on the pricey side, but I have knee and hip issues and needed to make sure that I had as much support as possible. I am usually a size 9 - 9.5, depending on the maker. I just happened to have a pair of older NB shoes that I bought in person at the mall, so I know that I am a 10 when it comes to NB. These fit perfectly, are super soft and springy, and I feel like I'm doing my knees a huge favor by wearing them. They DO feel a little strange at first with the higher and wider sole, but they are so lightweight, it's not an issue. I'm actually excited about walking again! ... show more
