The shoes fit, and have great cushioning and stability. I have posterior tibia tendinitis, and these shoes minimize the condition. I have had 10-15 pairs if the 847 series, and in recent years thought they weren't as good as they once were. I bought 2 other brands that I liked but that didn't have quite as much support. Decided to give NB another chance and am glad I did. Very happy with them !!

Purchased these shoes for my mom. Age 73. Many Pros- They have a wide toe box, even for a regular woman’s size B shoe. Also for anyone struggling with hammer toes you can see the shoes offer a soft mesh top to eliminate any pressure on those pour joints. One of the main reasons I liked this shoe vs other walking styles or brands- is the Rollbar heel support. My mom doesn’t have the greatest knees, like most older folk- but this feature helps stabilize her walking. She hasn’t had any knee pain after wearing these shoes. The only Con I can think of (and this happens with almost every shoe- Sizing.) is the sizes run a bit small. She’s a 9.5 and we ordered a 10. Fit like a glove then.

I'm going on a trip to Ireland, where there will be lots of walking uphill and down, as I'm staying in the mountains. Good shoes with excellent support are a must. The style of these walkers is far from pretty, but they checked all the boxes. I have worn New Balance before. The shoes have some ventilation, good arches, and rounded toes. They come in extra wide, helpful to my arthritic flat feet. This week I tried them out while doing some errands and grocery shopping. There was no break-in period at all. They were comfortable from the moment I put them on. I see the word "hole" checked in the suggested topics. Yes, the eyelet holes are not well punched, and it took some effort to force the laces through. I could not insert them into the topmost holes. The other drawback -- these shoes were NOT pristine and new. One did not have the wad of paper inside, and the lacing had been somewhat changed. I considered returning them. But then, how many times are the shoes purchased in a store tried on by other customers? There seemed to be no damage, just the icky feeling that someone else had worn at least one of them. The shoes and I head to Ireland in a while. If they don't serve me well, I will update this review, but I am thinking they will probably be fine.

The second I put these shoes on I knew they were the ones! They were a perfect fit for my feet and the first shoes that made my feel instantly better. I put them on and they made me stand up straighter. I couldn't help it they just made my posture better and made things feel aligned. I have trouble doing the dishes. I am 6'1" and to bend over the sink to do dishes kills my back. Wearing these shoes, not a single issue. I could stand there and do dishes all day lol They are also a very light shoe. Very breathable. Over all a great shoe... Here's the mixed review part. The soles of my shoes are still in great condition but I got these early November, it is now early February and they are now extremely uncomfortable to wear. The insides have worn out so now my foot doesn't sit right in them. It is causing my foot and ankle to do exactly what the shoe is meant to keep it from doing. I went ahead and spent a decent amount of mo ey on some nicer shoes because I thought they would be better and for a linger time frame. At this point I will need to get a new pair of shoes. Really it is quite a deceiving product. The love for the shoes are short lived. I don't have the kind of money to spend this much on a pair of shoes every 3 months. There needs to be a better fix.

I have bought several pair of these same walking shoes over the past few years as I walk a min of 3 miles each day, perhaps 3 pair/year. I ordered this pair as they were on sale at a very good price, the fit is perfect, I put them in the closet for spring as I live in a snow area and one does not walk in sneakers in the winter; in the spring I got them out and was caught in a surprise rain shower a mile from my home, got really wet, the blue dye ran, my socks and feet turned blue and neither Amazon nor Zappos nor New Balance will replace them as I am "over the 30 day return period and NO exceptions can be made" I am very disappointed. Lesson learned - be careful what you purchase on sale.

I have a smaller heel but need a wider toe box. Complaints are that the toe box is too short online. I just went up another half size on the last orders and that provided the wiggle room at the end of the shoe I needed, so be aware and try it on with the usual socks you will be wearing. I have worn the 847s I think since around 2001 or so. The important factor is that 847s have the Rollbar, or support on either side of your heel rest in the shoe that provides more stability when moving any direction. My knee was bothering me when walking in the neighborhood back then, and I realized I needed a decent walking shoe; the 847 was an immediate relief, and I've never desired to change. Reading recently about podiatrists' recommendations, the firmer support (not too cushy!) this shoe provides is what the doctor would order for me, and I still have no knee, foot or leg issues at this time, so I'm sticking with this model. BTW, I'm on my feet a lot, as I'm an RN, and I'm not young. The word "Rollbar" is found on either side, at the bottom back sides of each shoe close to the heel, if so equipped. I had to call the New Balance number to ask which model numbers have this stability feature when I reordered, just to see which model numbers offer it, but I have happily stayed with the 847 model. I can depend on the support this shoe provides.
