I am on at least my fifth pair of these shoes. I walk 10K steps every day and have had a broken toe, so I like to switch out my shoes every 6 months. My podiatrist recommended these shoes. They do not wear out on the outside, but I replace them often for maximum cushion inside. I donate the old pairs. In the summer, I do not wear socks and the shoes breathe well. New Balance has been my brand of choice for a long time. If you don't mind a heavy shoe and need stability, durability, and control, this is a wonderful pick. The deep and wide toe box is a plus for comfort. They do weigh about 1.25 lb more than my Brooks tennis shoes and sometimes feel heavy by the end of a long day. But after a few days in the Brooks, I have to return to my New Balance for comfort and support. If you need to wear orthotics, this shoe will accommodate them well. Okay so this is the problem the actual title of the sale said 990 the pictures are wrong with the made in USA logo on the tag but it’s a 5 series shoe that looks a lot like a 990V4 but it’s not. I thought this was a child’s 990 on a deal but it’s not at all. They ended up fitting well and my wife wears them but I was disappointed that these were not what was advertised. 5 stars for what it is 1 star for having all the information wrong. ... show more

    • Heel seems wider than my previous NB shoes
I ordered a NB size 13 Narrow after the 13 B heel was way too wide for me. I had to return the 13 B's. I usually wear a 13 B but the1540 V3 shoe is wider than my older ones. In the narrow size, I was afraid that the toe box would be too small but it fit fine. However, even in the narrow size, the heels still flopped a bit and rubbed my heel. I tried two different kinds of heel pads with these shoes and one of them seemed to help, although my left shoe heel is still a tad loose. But it no longer chafes, so I'm wearing these. I also have a pair of NB 990's and they fit me fine in a 13 B. But I did notice that heel cuff in back is about a 1/2 inch higher in the 990's. I'm not sure if this is a design change on all NB shoes or it is just this the1540 V3 model. I tried another current NB model and it had the same heel issue. The higher heel cuff on the 990's helps it grip my heel better. I did choose these 1540 V3 shoes over the 990's this time because I'm wearing the shoes for yard work and the suede on the 990's would be harder to clean. Just to note, I have very hard to fit feet with very narrow heels. But NB shoes have always fit me well in the past. I wish these shoes fit like the older 990's. One other thing is that the shoe laces are shorter. In some ways this is good as some of my older NB shoes have shoe laces that are so long that I always am stepping on them and then they come untied. These laces are ok but they have a kind of short tie. ... show more
