I bought these in extra wide (what I need) and find them to be comfortable for the price - but they are a little stiff and very noisy when walking. Having now worn them frequently for 2.5 months, I was hoping they would become a little more flexible but no. They look good, but on inspection the materials are pretty cheap and - yes - stiff. They don't lace easily, but don't come untied once laced. The big issue is the noise when walking - crunch, crunch ... Given the price, I would be happy with them if it weren't for the noise. They are "walking shoes" but I now wear them when I'm out at a casual place where I don't expect to walk much. ... show more

    • Would not recommend, they squeak very loudly, as others have also pointed out.

I have purchased New Balance shoes similar to these for years. I purchased my latest pair on August 26, 2025 and have barely worn them because they squeak SO LOUDLY that it is annoying to even wear them anywhere. People are going to hear you coming from 20 feet away in these things. The squeak comes from whatever material they have decided to start making the tongue out of. It is from the tongue rubbing on the underside of the top of the shoe with each step you take. This is the only brand that I have had this sisue with. I also see that others reference this squeak. Who wants to spend $60 on a pair of shoes that are embarrassing to wear because they make noise when you walk? New Balance's quality control department should be shamed of themselves for even allowing this design to get through. I figured that if I walked in them for long enough, the squeak would go away, but instead it has only gotten louder. Nothing that I have tried stops the squeak. I'm not buying these again. You've lost a customer of probably 10-15 years because you have started making your product with such poor design that it is noisy. My family also buys a lot of New Balance and I'm telling them, as well. When enough people stop buying these shoes, maybe New Balance will get the hint and make the tongue and/or underside of the top with a material that doesn't squeak. I didn't pay to have squeaky shoes. The trash can is the best place for these. ... show more
