For my feet (and stride, I suppose), this 847 model is the best walking shoe I've purchased. I take walks 4 or 5 times/wk, some longer, some shorter, averaging around 3 miles/walk each week. (About once/wk I take a relatively long(er) walk, 6-8 miles.) I've worn Nikes and New Balance shoes for ... probably 25-30 years, although before that I took runs of various lengths from relatively short to 15 or 18 miles. Then I went and quite stupidly fell off the eave of my house and injured my neck. A neck & back surgeon gave me options, but that ended my running. Instead, now I take walks. After trials with several manufacturers I finally settled on New Balance walking shoes of several types, and finally I settled on the 847s, They are stable shoes in all weather conditions throughout the year -- for me! Plus, I find them to be very comfortable! My phone tells me that I average of 20-25 miles/wk adding up 5 to 6 walks.

I’ve been searching for an everyday shoe for 2 years now with not much success. I suffer from Morton’s Neuroma in both feet and PF in my left foot. I needed a stable shoe to fit my custom orthotics and I needed a shoe that didn’t pinch my toes. I tried many other wide toe box shoes like Altra (7 different models) Topo (3 different models). Altra and Topo were way too soft causing stability issues. But I really like that wide toe box. I decided to give the 847v4 a shot because of the recommended wide toe box and extreme stability. These have it all. I’m very happy with these! They are surprisingly very wide in the toe area. No pinch at all. I went with an 11 1/2 wide, and I have to wear wide models in Altra and Topo shoes. These are plenty wide and really support my feet. Wide in the toe but no slop in the mid and heel. I have finally found my go to shoe. Let’s hope they last as they are quite expensive but worth every penny.

Pros -Comfort especially for a very big guy like me. -Tones of room for toes or wide feet -Breathable, great for relieving stinky feet compared to closed shoes -Great for sports Cons -Some pealing on the inside of the sole after 2 weeks of wearing it. Not too bad but a little worried about the overall longevity of these shoes. Thoughts: So as you can see in the picture I have a toe condition that requires me to go wider than normal. I have on 11.5 and they have tons of room for my toe. I wear this to work and its my daily driver. The shoe padding is amazing! I feel like I am walking on the most plush carpets. In terms of stability I love it too. I feel like I want to walk more and I have tons of confident playing sports as well. I play ping pong for about 30 minutes a day and I can tell you these do feel amazing. In terms of breathability, these shoes have reduced my athletes foot. I've done much to try and fix my athlete's foot and recently with these I come home and my feet does not stink at all. Even during summer, my feet stays cool and dry. Strong 4 star, worth buying yourself a nice expensive shoe like this one for work - you wont regret it at all.

I had bought two other shoes for walking, and in one month, they had already started showing wear. I have had new balance in the past and knew they are a good brand but the price difference was significant and I needed help bringing myself to spend the money. However, after the last two pairs fell apart in less than six months, I tried New Balance again. I am happy I did - the shoes fit much better and have better support than the other brands. The most significant part is that even after three months of daily walking - these shoes show little where and still feel great. It is just one of those situations where you get what you pay for - and at this rate, I will save money in the long run.

I'm big, I have trouble with shoes eroding away over 3~6 months. I've been wearing these for a while and it's barely starting to wear off the texture in some places. They feel extremely weird but you get used to it. New Balance's wideness is off from other brands, my 6E shoes are very wide. The heel fits fine, the length is good, but the front half of my foot is loose in a way that makes the shoes feel sloppy. If it were possible to buy I would probably get a 5e when these wear out, but it's not so loose that a 4e would be right. Normally I'm a 6.5ish. The rollbar is weird. They're extremely not waterproof, and not in any way warm. Not acceptable for winter, barely acceptable for early fall. Walking through grass with the morning dew is enough to feel wet quickly.

My expectations about price are related to country of origin. I bought the black on black shoes for the price offered because they were advertised as assembled or made in the USA. However, the label on the tongue of the shoe indicates they are made in Vietnam. This is important to get right yet Amazon has mislead. The shoes themselves are nice. They have good stability for heavier walkers like me. They look cool too. In this price range I am disappointed I can't say they were made close to their market.

The 847 V4 is the perfect all day shoe for standing and walking. Great support, stability with flexibility and comfort. Breathable mesh uppers, good for warm days or inside work. Would be the best shoe for a nurse or chef or just taking a long walk on a dry spring or summer day. The 847 V4 is more comfortable and lighter than my 928 V3's and more flexible too, without losing the stability. The heel/lateral stability is fantastic, very protective for the ankles. Complete ease, comfort and space for the front foot and toes. No cramping at all. The New Balance shoe designers got this one just right, I love it. I will keep wearing my 928 V3's on cold wet days or out in the meadow, but they will be getting lonely as the new 847 V4 is my top go to shoe for all day every day. You can put your own favorite supports inside, but you won't need much. Try them out for free on Prime, but be warned, you won't want to send them back!
