I can’t tell you how many times in the past few years I purchased this 608 brown suede new balance shoe from different vendors here on Amazon and had to return them . The xtra wide wasen’t as stated and the quality of the workmanship was inferior. In my opinion they seemed like seconds or B- Stock. The size wasen’t as stated . I even went to the New Balance store website and for the longest time this style 608 in Brown Suede wasen’t available. I have been buying the 608 since they were first introduced years ago. They are very popular among senior citizens. This vender is the first in a long time that sells a quality 608 brown suede shoe like the ones soled when they were first introduced way back when. So I bought 2 pairs while they are still available. It seems that NewBalance has reintroduced Quality in this 608 Brown Suede style shoe.

My feet were hurting. I thought I had a foot problem. Turns out I had a shoe problem, and the "PETA-friendly" soft-sided (non-leather) shoes I had been buying were causing my feet to form corns ... making it VERY hard to walk due to pain. My doctor recommended these shoes specifically, and from the moment I put them on (again, actually, as I had worn them years before as well) my feet were pain-free. Now I just buy these and nothing else for standard everyday shoes. For running I also use New Balance. Best shoe brand ever. I walk a LOT (at least two miles nightly in addition to wearing at work) and they last me a long time.

My feet are hard to find shoes that fit properly. Shorter than normal, partly due to surgeries and other difficulties as a child, very wide across the front and narrow in the back. These hit the mark. I did have to switch out the insole for a more advanced arch, but that's because my feet are different, no fault of the manufacturer. Also, re-did the laces for a runner with a narrow heal, which helped tighten the back. Comfort ++ Sharp looking ++ Breathable ++ Yes!

My husband's favorite shoes. They are the most comfortable and he loves the wide fit. They wear very well. We were leaving on vacay in 2 days and he tells me he could really use a new pair of his #608 New Balance shoes. We went to several local stores and could not find them then looked on Amazon and sure enough....his favorite shoe was available. Even better, they were delivered next day in time for our vacay.

I wore out my old Monarchs that I had worn almost exclusively for years a few weeks ago. Ordered some new ones for about $50 on Amazon (great price) and was very happy with them. For about a week. Until The Curse of the Monarch returned. To clarify, I first owed a pair of Monarchs around 15 years ago and wore those out too, and then bought replacements which were initially fine, but after a few days of casual wear they started to make squeaking/crunching sounds with every step. Kind of like I was walking on a carpet of mice and cornflakes. I tolerated this for many, many months but eventually replaced them with some cheap Adidas which gave me some relief from the embarrassment and taunting in the workplace, but in terms of foot comfort it was a dark time. Imagine my disappointment last month when my new (and very reasonably-priced) Nikes started making the exact same sounds after just a few days. Having gotten older and less tolerant of being ripped off I decided to send them back this time, figuring I could easily find another pair for the same price. Not so. Apparently Monarchs are generally $100+ right now so I looked elsewhere. I got the NB 608's from Amazon for around $70. Have to say, my first impression was good. These things look cool. Cooler than the Nikes. However, putting them on is kind of like stepping into an old bowling shoe vs getting a foot hug from a friendly Nike octopus. The sides of the NB's feel like cheap cardboard, and when you stand up and walk in them you get nothing like the bounce and support that you get from a Nike Air sole and a well-made leather upper. In conclusion, these are a decent shoe but a definite 6/10. Nike's equivalent is either a 7 or a 10, depending on nothing but dumb luck apparently - an associate at Shoe Carnival told me they have always seen good batches and bad batches and the squeak/crunch issue is well-known. Thanks as always to Amazon for great customer service.

I do quite a bit of Crossfit type training and made the mistake of buying a pair of Crossfit specific shoes with no drop which resulted in extremely painful Plantar Fasciitis in my feet. After much research on the best shoes for Planar Fascitis, purchased these and my feet healed within two weeks. Solid heel and arch support, well cushioned and an excellent cross trainer. Highly recommended, especially for the price.

I have New Balance running shoes which are great so I tried this sneaker for weight lifting as I wanted something with more support. This sneaker is perfect for weight training! Less support than a tennis shoe but more than a running shoe. Great for squats! Yea, they look good too.

These are the second pair of these shoes I purchased in the last 18 months. They’re very comfortable. They support my feet. I’ve gotten outstanding arch support out of these shoes. I highly recommend them if you are standing on your feet for several hours a day.
