  • Very Sturdy Housing and Good Coverage
Style: AX1800 | PoE Only
Most WiFi access points installed centrally in my house have died within 3 or 4 years. Better hopes for this one. First thing you’ll notice is the cast metal backplane of this AP. Designed for heat dissipation and feels very well made. Easy setup; I configured both 2.4 and 5.8 GHz radios for the same SSID and Key as my previous AP. All my devices (18 of them) connected quickly to this new AP. Great speed near this device - over 400 Mbps - and good speed farther away. Only downside is poor coverage off the backside. I know this should be ceiling-mounted, but I need it on a central wall. We have a range extender already on the side of the house that’s not well-served from an AP in the center, so it’s no problem. I like that this NetGear AP is straightforward in its setup and features. Not a bunch of “experimental features” that some other brands may tout, but result in worse compatibility. This NetGear AP just works and very well. ... show more

  • Good POE AP for Extending your Wifi
Style: AX1800 | PoE Only
No issues with setup, though I did have to read up on proper settings. Looks okay but it is a entry level business class product. If you already have an older high end router, this is a cheap alternative to getting a nicer mesh system with dedicated backhaul. Quick tip, after setup, reboot the primary router to pull all devices to the new AP. This will give the best results as the Wi-Fi standard try's to hold onto the channel for as long as it can. Doing this moves the static-IOT devices right to the new AP. ... show more

  • Devices would disconnect and reconnect
Style: AX4200 | PoE+ Only
Certain devices, especially my S23 Ultra, would disconnect from this WAP. Yes I had the latest firmware. I know it's not my device as it doesn't do it at work where I have a different WAP. And I didn't do it on the WAP I had before this one, and the brand I bought to replace this one also didn't have the issue, so Netgear needs to increase their signal reliability. ... show more

  • High capacity OpenWRT compatible device
Style: AX4200 | with AC Power Adapter
The base Netgear firmware is good and will meet the majority of use case requirements. However, the Netgear WAX220 is compatible with the OpenWRT 22.03.5-snapshot builds, and is being integrated into the upcoming OpenWrt 23.05.0 release. The implementation of OpenWRT 22.03.5-snapshot was successful, all expected features are available, and configuration did not require any debugging or workarounds. Kudos to the OpenWRT device developer and to Netgear for making this a great experience. This device was added to an existing Netgear WAX-OpenWRT 22.03.5 802.11r/k/v mesh, and was specifically selected due to the OpenWRT support. ***Netgear: Please take note that I would have selected one of your higher end WAX devices if they were OpenWRT supported. Your willingness to continue building open-source compatible devices is a strategic advantage over your competitors and their closed-source, hobbled offerings. I encourage you to work with and expand your support for these open-source projects, it benefits you and your customers. ... show more

  • Fantastic for home or 1 Access point
Style: AX4200 | with AC Power Adapter
OMG - If you just want 1 access point that's simple to setup and works great, this is it. I just returned a Ubiquity as it was ridiculous for me. On that, NO tech support, NO email, NO phone numbers and you HAVE to apparently download their app to set it up. You have to register to get the app and I never could do that successfully. OH, they apparently have some way to set it up with a smart phone but I'm legally blind and cannot do that. NETGEAR - Phone numbers to call for support. I didn't need to. This product sets up like all the ones I used to setup, but easier. It instantly obtained an address and I could have left it at that but I always like to see what's available inside. The only thing I changed was simple things like the ssid and name. I also used a static address as I like them on things that will not change. I spend less than an hour setting this up and I'M BLIND. This was/is a great little AP. If I was using or needed many more points of access I might have gone to a new mesh router and mesh nodes but I had the last access point for 10 years and it was all I needed. This is in my house, downstairs. My router is upstairs at the front of the house. This unit sits downstairs near the back yard. I can get a strong signal that doesn't drop once again. I just this for my TV, Echo and TIvo...as well as my lap top and ipad which are usually right there. Bottom line...great if you just need 1 ap and very easy to setup. ... show more

Very clean design and very simple installation. Wasn't expecting the t-bar mount that was included, which made installation even sweeter!
