  • Very solid and well built young adult toy
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Very well designed, I'm always impressed by how solid the smaller Nerf guns feel. It doesn't feel like it's hollow plastic at all, but feels like the entire thing is solid. The drum rotates well and is protected enough that even being banged around isn't going to knock it out of alignment and stop it from functioning. It has decent power among equivalent types of guns, and the drum depth is such that both the older bubble top darts and the newer Zombie Shot and N-strike Elite darts work in it flawlessly. It allows rapid fire as well, where the hammer can be fanned while the trigger is held and each dart will be fired with the hammer snap instead. This works as both an interesting design element and a detriment however. The catch on the hammer isn't as solid as could be wanted, especially since the spring in the hammer is a little stronger than one would expect for a kids toy, so it's very easy to miss having the hammer catch and latch and end up half-firing a dart unexpectedly. The spring strength in the hammer is actually enough that some adult friends of mine have trouble pulling the hammer back with their thumb on the same hand they're holding the gun with, meaning this is likely a 2 hand use gun for children and some adults. The grip is big enough that it feels like a thick but shorter grip of a real gun and it may present some problems to young children because of it's size. Of particular design comparison is the fact that the drum rotation mechanism is not tied to a dart firing like it is in many other guns of this type. This means that even if you have an empty slot in the drum, it will still rotate to the next drum position when fired. Despite the sturdy and great drum mechanisms built into this gun, it can thankfully still be rotated by hand in either direction without apparently ill effect to the internal mechanism. ... show more

  • Excellent small blaster, buy (at least) two!
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
So there's a neighborhood full of kids and a couple of them are running around with Nerf blasters. My friend decided to scale up their game, so he dug out a bag full of these and handed them out like an arms dealer. Having engaged in Nerf-based shenaniganry from silly run-around-the-house stuff to campus-spanning games with hundreds of participants, I have used a lot of Nerf blasters of all sizes and modifications. Of all the pistols, I like this one the most for the following reasons: First, it's smaller than other multi-shot blasters, meaning it can fit in pockets and fashioning a holster is much simpler than trying to make one for, say, the Maverick. Second, it is a true one-handed weapon, provided you have a tall enough thumb (not usually a problem given its size) so a quick shot is easy, and yes, you can dual-wield these like it's the wild west. Third, the blaster is quite reliable. Occasionally you'll squeeze the trigger and the dart will fall short, so a good trigger pull is necessary, however it is reasonably accurate and has decent range. They survive drops and tumbles (I observed one occasion in which a Hammershot was dropped from a third-story building to concrete below and the desperate recipient was able to use it immediately) so it is a durable item. The price is a notable perk as well. Buy multiple, fill up your own bag of blasters! Let no kid go unarmed in the coming battles around the neighborhood. If it does break, it's cheap to replace. TL;DR it's a fantastic blaster for the size, price, and reliability, and this makes it viable for pretty much any tier of Nerf games. ... show more

  • One of the Better and More Accurate Nerf Guns
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Nerf Zombie Strike Hammershot Blaster What a fun Nerf Gun! Good for kids or adults. Never too old in "mind and heart". My "adult" friends and I sometimes get together, and having a few drinks we set up some cans and zombie targets and just shoot away. It is literally a blast using this gun. So much so that this is the second one I bought so that friends could use them. I have tried out a few other nerf (and other brand) shooter guns and this is one of the better ones. Not only can you shoot 5 darts in a row, but it shoots far and is pretty accurate. You still have to cock back the hammer to shoot each dart, but it is quick and easy to do. I know some buyers of other nerf type guns complained that their young ones had a hard time using them. This nerf gun is big for one hand, but I think it is easy to load (if one is the appropriate age that is). I got into nerf shooting because another young guy I know had a 3-shooter and after trying it out, I got hooked. In any event, this is one of the better made nerf shooters for age appropriate kids or for the adult kids at heart who just want to entertain themselves and friends from time to time! ... show more

  • The Hammershot, another reliable sidearm of the Nerf world; 61 FPS, averaged.
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
This has one handed priming but the hammer is located on the top of the back of the blaster, so reaching it may be a hassle for either younger kids or just people with small hands since the draw weight of the hammer may complicate things for them. There are only 5 shots, perhaps 10 if you are holding two Hammershots or 1 in each hand. That said, the Hammershot is a reliable blaster that consistently performs it's duty well. It fires any Elite Nerf dart (blue, green, or decorated Rebelle darts) at an average velocity of 61 feet per second (FPS) as measured by my ProChrono Digital Chronograph. As a footnote, the FPS does not jump significantly using stock internals with the removal of the air-restrictor (AR; mine is 60-63 FPS with just the AR removed) alone, but there are performance upgrades available by aftermarket suppliers (namely, Orange Mod Works and BlasterParts). The twin "sister-blasters" to the Hammershot, the Rebelle Sweet Revenge and Five-By-Five both put up velocity ratings similar to each other due to the similarity in construction, so it is really a matter of preference which you think is nicer to you. Having only one color thus far, Orange, I painted mine "Zombie Green" to differentiate mine from others at our family Nerf War. There are also aftermarket holsters available for these blasters (look for them on eBay, especially the dual shoulder holsters which I think are cool), but also expect a hefty price tag that exceeds the price of the blaster to go with it. ... show more
