Took this bag on a trekking holiday. Held up well until I was wearing it as a backpack and was hit with some heavy rain and hail. Bag was completely soaked inside and out. Luckily I put all my gear in plastic bags in the bag so no harm, no foul. Just surprised that a bag designed for sailing did not stand up to rain. Otherwise- great bag. I appreciate the different options for carrying. Has duffel straps, long strap for cross body, and back pack straps.

This Navis Marine Sailing Bag Waterproof Duffel Backpack is a nice bag with what appears to be excellent construction to keep your gear dry while on the boat and by the water. No, we did not soak it or dunk it, but we noted several things that lead us to believe it'll be a great bag for people who enjoy being on and by the water. 1. The Navis Marine Sailing Bag Waterproof Duffel Backpack comes in a plastic bag with the logo - great for gifting. Inside the Navis Marine Sailing Bag Waterproof Duffel Backpack is held in a white cloth bag, which ups the presentation for gifting, but also can serve as a protective and/or storage bag for the duffle bag. 2. The Navis Marine Sailing Bag Waterproof Duffel Backpack - we got the 50 liter - is a good size, but it's a "normal" size for anyone who has or has had a duffle. We almost went with the 40 liter and are so glad we did not - it would have been too small. This is the size of most duffles we have had and presents the normal amount of room. Also, at this size, with the way the snaps and zipper are constructed, you're already "limited" with the access point and how much you can get in while loading and unloading. We can only imagine it would be difficult doing this with the smaller version. That is NOT to disparage the smaller version for someone who only wants the 40 liter size, simply to point out a positive/con situation as per our experience. 3. The water "proof" comes in from the idea that the zippers and snaps are keeping water out. Again, we did not check what would happen if we dunked or wetted the bag in any way, so we cannot speak to that. But we did note: the zippers with snaps are well done. The zippers - note picture - are constructed so there is no hole or opening between the teeth, creating what we assume is a protective element. There are snaps and a fold -over of the main compartment so as to also keep wayward water from getting to the main zipper. 4. There is a main compartment for keeping the main bulk of your gear, plus an end pocket for shoes or that kind of thing. 5. The interior materials seem to add to the ability to repel water - same with exterior. 6. There is a good, solid handle and a strap for easy carrying. 7. There are backpack straps for carrying that way, easily tucked into the back (bottom) of the duffle for carrying on your back or keeping out of the way. 8. The navy blue with white is an excellent color, attractive, and oh-so nautical. 9. The bag seems like you'll get enough gear in there for a day on the water or a quick weekender. 10. The main opening is under a zipper and series of snaps to keep that water at bay. But these mean that you cannot more fully open this area to a larger degree, meaning you're going to... work... to get that gear in there. Where a 'regular' bag will sit open for loading and unloading, this will not do it. Overall this Navis Marine Sailing Bag Waterproof Duffel Backpack is an excellent bag for that water person in your life. We did not try getting it wet, but the elements we have noted and examined give us the feeling water will be repelled and kept out well. And while we love that look of the bag, we do note it'll take a bit more of an effort to load and unload - not a con that would keep us from using it. That it can be carried by hand of on the back adds to the pluses. In the end we are happy with this Navis Marine Sailing Bag Waterproof Duffel Backpack and would recommend those who are often on the water to take a look.

Very well designed duffle that offers a coated waterproof material. I love that it has many different options for straps. It has the main double strap on top like you would expect, but also has a built in strap at each end which is a nice addition. It also has a shoulder strap as you would expect, but the addition of stowable backpack straps is super nice to get your hands free when needed. The place where you stow the back pack straps can also be used for addtional storage as well. All the zippers work nicely, although the zipper for the main compartment is a bit awkward to use because of the snapped flap that covers it to keep it waterproof. Small price to pay to have the extra protection.

First, one caveat… it says waterproof… but that is not accurate. The zippers would let water in if this bag were submerged. That said, it keeps out rain and spray with ease. I really love the design, the size, the color, the material on the exterior and the thoughtful touches like the Velcro straps on the bottom that can be used for lots of things, for me, I secure my fins there as I use this as a dive/snorkel bag. I’m using it right now on a boat trip to Bimini and I can’t stop looking at and playing with this bag, I really dig it. If you need a truly waterproof bag, get a Watershed, but for what this is, keeping gear dry in the rain and spray, this is a better bag due to the versatility and storage options / pockets, etc. The waterproof spot for wet gear is perfect and came in really handy already. LOVE THIS BAG!
