  • These ants don’t die!!!!
I ordered 2 tubes. TWO TUBES! 2 is wayyyyyy too many. If you’re thinking about getting Andy’s and you’re like “hmm I want to have enough to watch them create nice tunnels and have friends” DON’T. Only 1. Ok? I ordered an ant farm for my kids at the beginning of the 22’-23’ school year…. That was a year ago, and these ants are still alive!! Like, we left for a month and put a piece of bread in there and wished them luck, and when we came back they were ALL STILL ALIVE! If you wants ants as a permanent pet, then look no further because these are the ants for you! They are Harvester ants. And that’s about all I know about them. My kids lost interest in them after the first 2 weeks (once their ant unit was done) and it has been my sole responsibility to care for these tiny, ugly, undying life forms. I have no idea what to do with them. I tried taking them to some open abandoned field to release them. Like, opened their cage and was like “be free!” And just watched for 30 mins as they went out then back into the ant farm. So I just opened all the holes and shook the crap out of the ant farm and about half of them dropped out. The other half decided they would like the farm as their permanent residence. So now I’m stuck with about 12 Harvester ants. I mean, they’re well-behaved and low maintenance so I guess they’ve got that going for them. ... show more

  • Excellent! I'm a Happy Camper
The media could not be loaded. Received my ants earlier today and had to leave a review right way because I am so happy. (Quick Fyi- 91 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity levels through the roof. were in my mailbox for a couple of hours before I got to them but thank goodness they were just fine and ready to go. Put them in fridge for 20 minutes In the freezer for 5 (not recommended but not trying to get stung). Then made the transfer. Here’s how I made the transfer: I made the transfer by taking a large zip lock bag and cutting a hole at the bottom right corner of the bag. Next I inserted the open corner of the ziplock bag into the farm making sure that the opening was open inside the farm. Then I placed the vial inside the ziplock bag and sealed the zip lock bag. I opened the vial from the outside of the ziplock bag while it was still shut and I turned the viral upside down to release the ants into the farm through the bottom opening inserted into the farm. I also did this outside just in case any ants escaped. Voila! The transfer went smoothly. All but 2 ants survived (that's 28 ants and they started working right away!). I'd call this a success and I am one happy camper! Thank you so much to Natures Gift store! Excellent service!!! I’ am super thrilled. ... show more

  • The BATHTUB is the trick!
Great seller. I ordered these at the same time as I ordered the ant habitat (didn't wait for the coupon) and they arrrived a few days later. I was paying close attention to the temperature but my first vial arrived with all the ants dead. Seller prompty shipped a replacement order and gave me TWO vials to ensure good results. We had only one dead ant in each, which I consider to be very good! I carefully read all of these reviews, as well as the reviews for the sand habitat I chose, and kept the ants in the fridge until they weren't moving. For me, that was 35 minutes. They don't have much mass so they warm up quickly, and when I brought them out and checked them at 20 minutes they got so warm they woke up completely and thus the second 15 minutes. Having read all of the reviews, I saw so many mentions of stings and ants escaping, I came up with a plan. I placed the ant farm in the BATHTUB before I opened the vial to put them in the paper funnel. I also wore leather gardening gloves. Everything everyone says about them crawling up the paper funnel is true. It is also the case that they wake up at different times. There's definitely a delay between the first ant coming out of the vial and the last. I made the funnel long and tall and jammed it all the way down (making sure it was wide enough that they could still get through it) and even put tape on the side so it would keep its shape. But having to bounce the funnel up and down to knock down the ants that were climbing up destroyed the opening at the narrow end, and they couldn't get out it anymore. So it didn't really work out! In messing with the funnel I noted that the few ants that fell into the tub couldn't climb its walls. So I felt safe (and, besides, should things really go south I could always turn on the faucet and dispose of them... but they couldn't climb the walls and that wasn't necessary). And ultimately I dispensed with the paper funnel idea and had my leather gloves and the vial and the ant farm-in-bathtub setup, and just took off the cap and tipped and tapped them into the opening. The ants that fell outside the habitat ran around my bathtub merrily and I scooped them up at a time at my leisure using the tip of the vial, and then tapped them from the vial into the opening. Every once in a while I would switch to a different opening, so that they were dispersed evenly. Having them run around harmessly was easy, and my five year old could stand outside the tub and watch from a safe distance. I don't know if everyone's bathtub would work as well, but I thought I'd pass the suggestion along. For us, it was a success! ... show more

  • Half were dead on arrival
It was very discouraging to have half of them dead right from the beginning. We also had to dump the dead in with the live and later clean out the area the best we could. It was like starting with a grave yard for an ant farm and they continued to die over the course of two weeks. I think the ones that died later was because of the ant farm itself. We bought one with a tube and sponge that was placed at the top. The sponge let all the water out into the sand within an hour. We could not figure out how to give the ants the water they desperately needed without drowning their home. We tried water every other day, but it was not enough. There was even a point the pour creatures were trying to break into the watering area to get water. ... show more

  • Soooo we got a zombie crazy ant
We got these ants which came perfectly packaged, everything was great till one single ant started to un alive all the others and then put the ants in a pile to climb to the top of the ant farm container to try to get out…I’m sure we just got a weird ant in the batch but my kiddo decided maybe he didn’t want an ant farm after this after all. If you get a weird ant that seems a bit crazy just remove it before this happens I guess. ... show more

  • No queen
This colony died because no queen was sent. My daughter spent hours trying to find her, but there was none, so they died off, she was quite disappointed.
