We are SO happy with our purchase, and with the educational experience that was provided for our homeschool. We received 6 potential butterflies. Two attached themselves to the fabric provided, but instead of getting rid of the ones that failed to attach (or that were knocked down by the stronger caterpillars, we left them inside their cocoons/chrysalises and placed the now open cup inside the butterfly habitat. We were rooting for them to survive and kept them even when they seemed to be getting moldy/fuzzy. Two of these cup-dwelling "failed" ones were the first butterflies to emerge! So don't discard those long-shot creatures that fall or fail to attach—give your class a wonderful little lesson on hope and perseverance instead. :) P.S. I'm sure it has been mentioned in hundreds of reviews, but the butterflies don't come with the initial order (and that's a good thing—you have to be certain that your habitat is in place before you start shipping vulnerable little living creatures through the mail). You get the kit, and then you use the code provided to order your larvae. Gathering around to watch butterflies emerge was such a beautiful experience. I highly recommend this product! ... show more

Great for grandchildren. Gave it to my grandchildren for the holidays and finally got to use it in April when I sent away for the larva. The instructions are not really good with it. I couldn’t get the chrysalis on the paper to adhere to the sidewall. Tried tape and stapler. Still it was a great experience for our granddaughters. ... show more

1. I believe it’s overpriced. It looks like a laundry hamper but smaller than I though it’ll be. 2. The butterfly’s are not included, the good thing the coupon worked, it’s just kids had to wait for caterpillars like a whole week more after that, so don’t show this thing to kids right away.

The caterpillars turn into awesome butterflies. The company stands behind there products. The first set was lost in the mail and showed up 3 weeks later. The media could not be loaded. This was such a fun project I Love it! Just PSA: You don’t get the live catapilars and the box at the same time, you do have to order the catapilars with a free coupon code you get in your box.. If you think you aren’t doing it right that’s okay, they are still growing you just have to be patient.. also for some of mine I saw some red liquid.. unsure of what that was but they all were fine! ... show more

It's cute...I bought another one for my grandson. The cost of the butterfly eggs is extra and $$. The whole thing ends up costing close to $50. Plus Monarch butterflies are not available to ship

Nice, but not worth it! It's very well made, for no larvae or butterflies. There is a cupon that doesn't really discount anything. Besides paying for this item, you STILL have to pay almost $20 for larvae and their S&H.
