This is such a cool bug catching set. Well worth the price for sure. My kiddo loves bugs, but neither one of us enjoy touching them, which is why this set with the little bug catching tool, net, and tweezers to arrange leaves inside the container is perfect for us. The magnifying glass piece works great for viewing their faces up close. The tray in the bottom comes out for easy washing, and it has little crevices to put in water or dirt or whatever you'd like to help keep your bug comfortable while observing it for a day or two. My child is 3 and I help him out with using the tools and whatnot, but he's learning so much by observing bugs and has lost his fear of spiders entirely because he can see them make webs up close and even respects what the bugs each do differently for our environment. I think he'll enjoy this set for many years and many bugs to come! It's not very big, but big enough to house one or two bugs for a small period of time. It's plastic, but durable. We've dropped it on cement a few times and it still is in great shape. The lid snaps for a tight enclosure too, which means no bugs randomly escaping. My kids love it!! The girls enjoy finding new bugs to hang out with and look at up close. The double top openings are super handy for adding new bugs. Top could be easier to get/keep on but overall I’m very pleased with this purchase. Haven’t ordered the butterflies yet. I bought this kit for a six-year-old kid. He loved it. As soon as he opened all his gifts, he was outside trying to catch bugs. It is well designed and was very appropriate for his age. A couple of days after his birthday, he called me so he could show me all the bugs he had collected. Got this for my 6 year old grand-nephew as part of his birthday gift, as he is so into bugs lately. He loves to find any kind of bug and shove it right up into my face and say "look what I found"! I am not so enthusiastic at his findings, but pretend to be! Wanted to support his interests and thought this would be the perfect gift. Well, he loves it! He immediately went to find a bug in the backyard. He was only able to find a large ant at the time, and quickly put it in the case. He examined it through the magnifying part of the case. There was one problem to make a note of. There are small air holes in the top, and the ant was able to get through and out. Lesson learned...it's meant for bigger bugs. Maybe spiders, grasshoppers or other creepy crawlers! I have no doubt he will find many bugs to catch and observe. He loves the tools that come with it too for capture, tweezers a net and I think there was 1 or 2 other things that I can't remember now. Unfortunately due to weather at the time, he was unable to continue his search, but I'm sure he will first chance he gets. Overall, a great kit for the small bug lovers in your life! ... show more
