  • Another fantastic laptop from MSI
Style: 16 GB RAM | 512 GB SSD
I bought this laptop a little over 3 months ago as a replacement for my ~4yr old MSI GE72 Apache Pro which, though still functional, needed an upgrade. I searched for laptop deals for about a month before finding this one, which blew my expectations for the price point out of the water, and it is quite a monster laptop with its GPU+CPU combo. My favorite small feature is the individually lit LED keys with the physical laptop button to customize/change it! Any negatives of this laptop do not bother me at all, which is why I am extremely happy with my purchase. Here's a short list of the main pros and cons of the laptop: ---------------------- CONS: * Short Battery life. Don't expect to use this laptop to any serious capacity without being plugged in; that's the main trade-off of gaming laptops. It still has the portability of a laptop, and I still can and have used it for a couple of hours at a time unplugged (after dark living with an off-grid solar power system), but this thing is a beast. It will not be able to perform at full power without being plugged in, but you're not going to be gaming on your lap with this thing anyway. * Subpar onboard speakers/microphone/webcam. The speakers on the laptop aren't great, and the microphone isn't anything special, but both are functional if you don't want to buy a mic or use headphones for a bit. Once again, though, if you're using a gaming laptop, you are probably going to have your accessories (headphones/headset, mic, mouse+mousepad), so it really only affects you if you plan on watching movies with this laptop without an external speaker. Though I think even having a webcam is nice, so the quality (iirc it's 720p) doesn't bother me much cause it's better than not having one. --------------------- PROS: * The best and most reliable laptop specs for the price point. This has an RTX 2070, beautiful 144hz 1080p low delay screen, i7-10750H CPU, 8GB RAM (which can be upgraded), and a 512GB SSD (which also can be upgraded). This thing works well on any game you throw at it, and it is only barely over-preformed by maxed out desktop setups and laptops that cost 1.5x-2x as much. I researched laptops for at least a month to try to find the best deal and not waste my money, and when I bought it on sale for $1400 upon release, it was literally an instant buy because of its specs alone. I have had no problems running games or Adobe programs on it. * Along with the last one, the screen is very nice. There isn't a thick border to the edge of the laptop, and it feels very sturdy at every point of rotation along the hinge. I came from a 17" MSI to this 15" one and thought it would be hard to go down in the screen size, but it wasn't at all; if anything, the laptop size is more convenient. * The cooling is pretty great. While monitoring the laptop temperature, I haven't had any noticeable overheating problems playing intensive games on a hot summer day, and if you think you need it, you can max out the fans with a physical button on the laptop. The fans are loud, but they don't bother me at all having headphones on. Things to the left side vent of the laptop do get a bit warm, but that's how you know the cooling system is working. * For me, the keyboard is quite satisfying in every way. It is nice to type on it, I like the font of the letters, it still has a numpad and arrow keys, and the LED key lights are mesmerizing. ----------- ... show more

  • Great Laptop for Gaming!
Style: 16 GB RAM | 512 GB SSD
I've recently been on the market for a gaming laptop capable of handling Cyberpunk 2077 up to my standards but at a good price: and this computer fits the bill. In the meantime the full RTX 2070 and i7 have handled everything I've thrown at it with no stutters (both programs and games) with great performance, all on max settings. The Steelseries RGB keyboard has mutiple preset / default options however you can also create new ones and customize them. Looks great, definitely one of my favorite features, even if it doesn't directly affect performance. As others have said, fans can get very loud when playing demanding games (especially when using the Cooler Boost option), but with headphones you'll be fine. However, this is expected for gaming laptops. I haven't tested how hot it gets, but overall you might think about getting a cooling pad. It does come with 512GB NVMe SSD, so if you keep lots of files on your computer or play games that occupy lots of storage, you'll probably need to increase space, for which fortunately there is. The build is sturdy, but the materials are a fingerprint magnet. Without a doubt you'll be cleaning this computer constantly. Battery life isn't exactly great, especially when gaming without a cord. But this isn't really a problem if you just take the cable with you. Overall, I'm very happy with this computer and has run with zero problems, both when playing demanding games and running multiple programs. I'd suggest it to anyone looking for both great performance and good price. ... show more

  • MSI Does It Again!
Style: 16 GB RAM | 512 GB SSD
I'm a laptop gamer, have been for over a decade. I've had Dell's rockin' XPS, I've had their less-than-satisfactory Alienware and when I needed a new laptop 6 years ago, I went with an MSI, due to the power at an incredible price. Think about that-- 6 years with the same gaming laptop. Ever since then, I've talked my daughter, her boyfriend, 3 of her friends, and two of my nephews into buying MSI and they all love them. I will never buy anything else. Now, to this review-- After 6 years, I needed a new gaming laptop so I bought this. Raytracing? Wasn't any hesitation. And it runs flawlessly! I'm running all of my games in Ultra mode and still getting a steady 60+ FPS. Here's a response to what other people have written: - Laptop is loud-- of course it's loud. That's because of the power inside. You're cramming the 3rd fastest video card on the market into an itty bitty chassis. So if you're complaining that it's loud, you simply don't get it. It's normal. - Low battery life-- It feels like the words "desktop replacement" have vanished from the PC gamer vernacular. It's not meant to run on battery. The battery is for if you suddenly have to move it, you can unplug it , move it, and plug it back in. Power goes out? Use the battery to sae your work, then turn it off. That's the whole idea. - The screen and video card are nothing short of amazing. 144mhz? Best screen I've ever used. No jaggies, no pauses, no split-screens. And the RTX card? MSI is one of the few companies that allows you to use the reference drivers directly from NVIDIA, and it's this reason that their laptops withstand the test of time. You get every update from nVidia, roughly one a week. New game comes out, nVidia writes it into their driver, you get it delivered to you. This is the main feature of the system. In contrast, Dell forces you to use their driver and rarely update it. Basically, the Alienware I bought was close to useless in less than a year. - Loud- yeah well, RTX card, lotsa fans running = loud. - heavy-- You're insane. This is one of the lightest gaming pc's on the market. - Sound-- okay, this one is legitimate. The sound is terrible, very tinny. But once I put my headset on, it sounds fantastic. So just figure on using headphones, which you're probably doing anyway to take advantage of spacial sound. - Space - yep, you're gonna need to get a second drive. So, people complain that the 512 gig ssd isn't enough to install a lot of games and they're right, but it's because they don't get it. The SSD should really be just for your OS and any read-write heavy apps. You'll need a second drive, probably a sshd or hdd and MSI, realizing this, has given us a second bay to install one. So quit whining. As you can see, I love my MSI and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Get one NOW. ... show more
