I really like this box, the brown wood looks nice and vintage. I put my pocket knives in here and it makes them look like a professional collection now. The color of the wood, antique patina metal latch and the slight imperfections make it look like a real display case in a general store from the 1800s. I took a star off because when closed there is a gap where the lid meets, so keep that in mind that it’s definitely not a high-end artisan box, but if you like the slight rustic look and aren’t picky, it’s perfect. Actually the very slight imperfections worked in my favor for the look I’m trying to get, gives it character. For the price it’s a bargain, so I ordered more to display my various small collections around the home. Black velvet pad inside is nice to protect your valuables. Perfect vibe for what I’m using them for (antiques). 1800s/early 1900s general store display case is what this brown color excels at, very happy! Will buy more. ... show more

This inexpensive box works well as a display case for a dozen or so pocket knives - or a bunch of arrow heads or antique jewelry. If you are looking for a highly finished, museum quality display case, this isn't it. I wasn't. I needed a wooden box with a glass lid (not plastic) to show off a few inexpensive but vintage knives. $25 was my limit because I didn't need a box more valuable than its contents. This arrived well packed, undamaged, and all the parts working - hinges, clasps. The corners are square and the lining fits. It met my expectations and that's why I give it a 5. ... show more

    • not as pretty or as functional as I thought
The plus for this glass-topped b ox is that it is good-looking on the outside. The hardware on it is very functional & attractive However, on the inside of the bottom of the box the velvet covered insert (padding?) does not fit flush with the inner edges of the box. I don't consider it padding.....I consider it just a piece of something thrown in to amp up the item's appearance a little. This pad is about 1/4 - 1/2" too short to fit from outer wall to outer wall on the inside of the box.. That won't work for me. I planned to use the box to place gemstones in. When showing the box & its contents to someone else or just using it myself, the gemstones will slide around on their own, not to mention the that they will slide around more on top of the padded insert. I'm bummed.....I had thought I could get a reasonaly attractive box that is moderately priced. So, I guess I'm back on the hunt for a display method for my many many gemstones. ... show more
