Description

For 45 years, Mongoose has been in the dirt, down the trails, and on the ramps. With the Legion Series, Mongoose offers a full line of freestyle BMX bikes for riders of all ages and ability levels. The Legion L20 was designed to be a fully park, street and dirt worthy BMX bike. The Legion L20 features a Hi-Ten steel frame (20.25” top tube), tapered headtube, and removable brake mounts. The L20 Hi-Ten steel 8” rise handlebar and 48mm stem are designed for precision riding, while the wide aluminum single wall 36H rims and 2.3” BMX tires offer grip and durability. The 25x9T gearing with one-piece tubular chromoly 170mm hollow spindle cranks and American loose ball bottom bracket offer a clean, reliable drivetrains. An alloy U-brake with alloy brake levers provide speed control, while the Hi-Ten Steel BMX fork with 1-1/8" threadless steerer and taper leg helps maximize performance. This bike ships ready to be assembled and comes with a 5-year limited warranty on the frame and a 1-year limited warranty on parts.

Was looking to get back into BMX. I mean I'm buying a BMX for my 5yo son (wink). Just wanted something like I had in the 90s. Everything was $200 and above. Walmart has a Mongoose Rebel X1 for $182 that I almost bought. Then suddenly, as if reading some kind of chip implanted in my brain, or device, Amazon shines light on the Mongoose Legion Intermediate L60 in Grey for $153. The listing photo does not match and shows a L20 grey but the listing "Part Number" comes back as the proper L60 in grey and is what you get. I wait and the price goes to $155 but with a 20% off coupon. No brainer from there. The Legion 60 is an upgrade from the Rebel X1 which I match most to the Legion 20 from what I can verify and see in photos. The L60 has a sealed rear hub and sealed head design that makes it superior to the L20 and the L40 which had a sealed rear hub. The L60 does not come with pegs but the front axle will accept 3/8 pegs or the Mongoose Freestyle Steel Pegs. The rear axle is 14mm so you need larger diameter pegs for the rear. The rear-axle has plenty of thread left for pegs. The seat tilt is fixed. The head part of the frame already has slots ready for a gyro brake system but the L60 does not have the system installed. The frame is Hi-Ten steel which I don't mind and is what I had back then anyway and you cant really find chromoly frame builds for less that $300. $130.37 out the door on this bike for what it has is a super duper deal. It is made in China but for an OEM bike, I could never build something like this for that price. A frame and maybe wheels without tires is most I'd get under $150. I paid 150.00 for this with free shipping. 2 days to my door. You can not build this bike for that price. This is not the Walmart mongoose. High quality welds light weight wide high psi park tires chro-mo landing gear. This bike plays in redline and gt quality. Will be a second soon.

Seat and stem are inseparable. Must buy new seat and a new stem to replace seat. Stem size is 25.4mm, so you can replace bike stem to install new seat. With my new seat this buy has been amazing.

Just get one. This is Mongoose like in the 80's and early 90's. Not the junk crap that Walmart and other department stores still sell. Avoid those like the plague! But then, that's apparent to any real BMX rider. Those are all flash for what little you pay and no real quality. If you already have one of those, strip it down to the bare frame and only the frame and build everything else up from scratch. That's those bikes only hope. This on the other hand is fine the way it comes. Ok, may have to make a few tweaks and whatnot along the way, but that's to be expected of even the best BMX bikes. It's part of riding and making it your own. I do wish they'd have given it at least a somewhat taller seat post, and I'm also not crazy about how the seat is permanently attached to the seat post as well. Normal seat and seat post setup is, if the seat wears out or isn't to your liking, you can just stick a new seat on the seat post. Here, you have to replace both. Was expecting something like a pivoting seat post or perhaps the old bolt down kind. On the other hand, the seat that's here, by BMX standards, is plenty acceptable until I upgrade. I got the L60 and I'm not sure it mentions it in the details, but it appears as though it's sporting a rear wheel that's sealed while the front wheel is not sealed. But the L60 is totally the midrange offering of the whole Legion lineup. So it's expected that a few things are somewhat average, besides, the rear wheel is where you want and need a better quality one at, uh, if you're going to cut corners that is. Also, contrary to what I'm seeing in other reviews here, the brakes do work surprisingly well. More than adequate. The bike arrived perfectly and overall inspection found one very minor blemish. Top tube on left side has like a weird smudge in the paint job that then glossed over for it's final painting. I tried Goo Gone thinking it might have just been grease, it's kind of a blackish color against green giving that effect sorta, but after a good rubbing it remains unchanged, so I can tell it's permanently on there. Both very minor and totally cosmetic, a classic error no doubt the result of being mass produced. Everything else is brilliant here plus I caught a sweet sale on mine and got it for only $146.87 + tax. Arrived quickly, packaged well, everything is in perfect condition, so yeah, I'll excuse one little minor smudge. Thank you Mongoose!!!! ... show more

I purchased the green L60 last month. The bike appears in good shape but does not have a rotator gyro on it. The gyro enables the rider to turn the handlebars 360 degrees while doing tricks. The ad shows many pictures of this bike with this feature and a video of professional riders spinning the handlebars 360 degrees. I contacted the manufacturer about this issue and was told to send them my Amazon receipt, the model and serial number of the bike. I did so immediately with pictures of the bike in there ad. They contacted me and told me if I was having problems I should take the bike and get it tuned up of read the owners manual. I responded that I thought there advertising was deceptive. They then apologized and suggested I return the item and choose one with this feature. There is not a L60 module on the Amazon sight. They then recommend I choose a L20 bike with this feature and sent a link. The L20 is recommended for 6 and 7 year old kids my grandson is 13. They don't want to do anything but suggest stupid things. There customer service is like talking to the wall. Don't buy from Mongoose buy at a local bike shop who will take and listen to your issues. ... show more
