  • Notebook perfection attained
Color: Kraft Brown Style: Ruled
The older I get the more I believe in "buy once, cry once." Spend a little more money on good quality products that get the job done, need to be replaced less often, and generally make your life better. I thought Moleskine was for snobs and didn't see anything wrong with a $1 spiral. Then I went back to school, and realized what a pain spirals are. I started taking notes on Ampad narrow ruled paper with a double thick pack, micro-perforated at the top. This works great for general lecture notes, but sometimes you need a notebook. For example, I'm a literary studies major and one of my profs requires a reading journal. I have to turn in the whole thing several times a semester. I had purchased a Moleskine planner (because it had Peanuts characters on it, mainly) and fell in love with the smooth, supple paper and narrow ruled lines. I thought I might try the cahier journals because they are not terribly expensive in the kraft paper version. I had my husband, an artist, decorate the covers. They are perfect notebooks. Great size, sturdy, well-sewn, lay flat, the lines are beautifully narrow, the paper is luxuriously smooth and thin without being too thin, and in general they are a joy to write in. Definitely worth about $5 a piece or more. I use a Bic Atlantis pen which is extremely smooth-writing so these two together - each stroke of the pen is like a stick of buttah. ... show more

  • Indispensable for Note-taking and Brainstorming
Color: Black Style: Dotted
TL;DR: Affordable. Perfect size. Durable. Great for note taking. Not great for bullet journaling (because soft cover and ghosting). I am a life-long learner. I'm forever taking online courses, reading, brainstorming, or studying scripture. These are my go-to notebooks for capturing what I'm learning or any ideas I'm working through/ brainstorming for my fiction writing. I've bought square grid, and dot grid. I honestly don't have a preference most of the time, I just buy whatever is cheapest at time of purchase. I love the black covers because it's just a classic look, but I also love the kraft paper covers for doodling on. It takes me back to middle school when I covered my text books with brown paper grocery bags. :) Bonus points for writers: You know those notebooks that are incredibe? I'm talking leather bound, hand-sewn notebooks with pulpy thick paper that makes you sweat with anxiety at every simpering, idiotic thought you might dare to write in it? This is not that. This is a notebook you can live in, where your thoughts can breathe and truly grow. They're nice enough that you can save them on a shelf for later reference, but not nice enough where you'd feel guilty tossing it out later. If you have someone, or yourself, who is a student, a writer, a life long learner, or a combination of the three this is a great purchase/ gift. If you are looking for a notebook for bullet journaling or for using more than just your standard pen, however, I'd suggest getting a notebook with a higher GSM on the paper quality. ... show more

  • Once you use Moleskine you will be hooked
Color: Black Style: Squared
First a few considerations when buying Moleskine journals/notebook or whatever you like, the size names they give them are not intuitive or useful. XLarge is the size of a standard composition book from grade school ( roughly ). Take the time to look at the dimensions in the descriptions. The cover of this style is more durable than standard poster board stock, but it is not firm cardboard like the composition books. They do make a hardcover, but I am not sure if they do in this size and graph style. If you have never touched a moleskine, then at least try them, the paper can hold up to anything from a fountain pen to pencil, It has a nice weight to it, and it would hold up well to a three hole punch and a three ring binder. One of these days I will hole punch all of my notebooks and put them in binders, but I am personally adverse to that much structure. The size and the width make this notebook perfect for putting it in a book and carrying it around, that is the upside to the cover being thinner cardboard stock. It makes a great notepad for meetings or school work, and you can throw a couple in a briefcase or backpack. The sewn binding is strong, but unlike those cardboard composition books, you can actually open it up flat to any page and use all of the pages without tearing up the cover and binding in the process. So if you want a low profile notebook, then this is it. ... show more

  • 10/10 Would definitely buy again!!!!!!!!
Color: Cranberry Red Style: Ruled
I LOVE THESE NOTEBOOOKS SO MUCH!!! I am pretty picky when it comes to office/school supplies, and this year I was looking for some notebooks that lasts for a good amount of time, that has no binding, and that has warm colored pages (YES WARM PAGES). I used to use regular notebooks in high school and somehow I did not like how bright the pages were. This is my second year of college and I was still in look for these notebooks. A student in my class had one of these journals in a different color and I first noticed the paper. I feel in love and found out that it was a moleskine notebook!!!! The size is great, everything is great about this notebook!!! The only thing I was concerned about is when I got it from the mail, it was a bit bent but still love it!!!! ... show more
