  • Excellent choice
Size: 3/4 HP Style: Continuous Feed Pattern Name: Disposal Only
I purchased a home that did not have a garbage disposal. I think I assumed they are all the same and bought a badger series which fine for a year or so. then I started having problems that got worse over time. At first, it was just an occasional jam, which was easy enough to fix, then it started jamming every time I used it. I tried everything as resetting on the bottom of the disposal only worked for a short while. then I noticed a leak on the bottom of the disposal and the inside had rusted out completely in the corners. All this in about 2 years! This time I did my research. There were two disposals that fit my needs. I don’t need a commercial disposal, but I definitely needed more than a 1/4HP that won’t grind some every day items. It came down to this disposal and the same one I’m replacing. I definitely wasn’t going there again. This is actually a far better disposal. It offers quite a bit more horsepower, will grind almost anything, it’s very quiet and even smaller than my original disposal. It’s just made better too, the gaskets were better quality and output is in a more logical place. It grinds completely, no residual at all in the disposal, so there’s never smell either! It grinds completely, no residual at all in the disposal, so there’s never a smell either! It's about time! I was a little concerned at first, due to my previous experience that there is no reset button on the bottom of the unit. Moen states this product doesn’t jam. Knock on wood, I haven’t had a single jam or problem at all! Plus, I felt it was easier to install and I even replaced the sink mount. I am incredibly happy with this garbage disposal. It has saved my family and I much heartache and money. My plumbers a little sad, but at least he has more time on his hands now. He didn’t have any experience with this model garbage disposal by Moen, but said he is now a fan and will be recommending this model from now on. Another plus, it was the same price as the previous disposal, but considerably more powerful. Best purchase I’ve made in a long time! ... show more

  • Quiet Power!
Size: 0.5 HP Style: Sound Shield Pattern Name: Disposal Only
I recently had to replace my old garbage disposal and decided to go with the Moen GX50C Disposer from their Prep Series. And let me tell you, it's been an eye-opener. My previous disposal was so loud, it felt like it could wake up the entire neighborhood every time I used it. It was one of those things you don't realize how bad it is until you experience something better. And this Moen disposal? It's a world of difference. It's not completely silent – I don't think any disposal can be – but it's as close as you can get to a quiet dream. It operates with a mild hum that's surprisingly soothing compared to the racket I was used to. And it doesn't just sound better; it works great too. It pulverizes food waste like a champ, leaving nothing but oblivion in its wake. Installation was pretty straightforward, and it comes with a power cord included, which is always a plus. The sound reduction technology Moen has used in this model really stands out. It's a relief not having to brace myself for a wall of noise every time I need to dispose of food scraps. In short, I absolutely love this disposer. If you're in the market for a new garbage disposal and noise level is a concern for you, I'd highly recommend the Moen GX50C. It's efficient, relatively quiet, and a significant upgrade from the older, louder models. ... show more

  • It does its job very well.
Size: 1 HP Style: Continuous Feed Pattern Name: Disposal Only
Easy to install if you have done it before, I have never done one before, so it took me about 3 hours. The most difficult part was lifting the disposal with one hand while trying to tighten the collar with the other, that did not go well. What I ended up doing was using a bottle jack, used for jacking up a car when it has a flat, I placed the unit on the jack and slowly jacked it up until it just held against the sink, don't go pump it past that point you could bend your sink, then I was able to use both hands to tighten the collar ring. A floor jack could have worked, but they are a lot larger leaving less room to work under the sink. The disposal came with everything you need, you will need to get a small tub of plumber putty, it's like a clay-like consistency, you need to make it into a rope about 1/2 an inch in diameter according to the directions, but mine failed the first time, so I took the putty off and reused it again but this time I added more so the rope was about an inch thick. Once you have it secured and tightened you just pull off the excess and put it back into the little bucket, but it probably won't stay fresh for more than 3 to 6 months. Another tricky area is the drain pipe coming out of the disposal matching up to the house drain, while mine wasn't bad, though doing it for the first time did cause a bit of an unexpected headache, I had to cut about 1/4 inch of the house drain pipe to make the two come together. In that process you should not use the old rubber gasket that joins the two together, you should buy a new one, so back to the store I went to get a new one. I also found out I needed a pipe wrench so I could loosen up a part of the drain pipe to swivel it out of the way, then move it back into position and retighten it. Functioning-wise, it is quiet for a 1-horsepower motor, it's quieter than our old 1/2 horsepower was by a little bit. It doesn't vibrate like crazy when running, it is very smooth running. It's a very good disposal. How does this disposal compare to others? I don't have a clue, never installed any others, our old one was a 20 or so-year-old Waste King, that's all I can compare it to. Almost all the disposals on the market are made in China, this one was made in Cambodia even though the internet says USA. ... show more
