  • Overall great movie
Plot moved kinda slow at first, but it picked up after a while. The last few minutes made me tear up pretty bad

  • what the f is going on (spoilers)
I love realism movies like American Honey and Florida Project and this is almost in the same league but doesn't quite make the mark. Feels like rich people telling about poor people instead of poor people telling about poor people. The characters all appear to be sociopaths, even the little kid. The mom is constantly leaving her kid all over the place and seems to have no real attachment to him. She says her boyfriend 'adopted' her son. We meet the boyfriend and it really seems like some kind of on again off again thing because he seems to have no real care for her or the kid. But later we find out she's been with him since her pregnancy and she's been tolerating his traumatizing/abusive behaviors for 8 years? It's not realistic. They would not have made it that long without social service involvement. They also just very much have a sort of buzzy, new relationship energy. So she does go to social services but they don't give her any help? Look, I've lived in Upstate NY among welfare recipients and I know they will put a mom and a kid up in a motel as fast as a blink of an eye. It's the middle of winter, but the kid apparently does not go to school. There's a fairly impressive chase scene at the end which results in a huge wreck, but it's not on the news or anything? I mean this is a small Upstate NY town, it would be on the news. Then the mom attempts to abandon the child at a bus station and enlists the help of a policeman to do so? The policeman doesn't recognize her as being involved in any kind of recent crimes of course and sees nothing suspicious about any of this. She buys her kid a ticket to some unknown place? Where exactly? It doesn't say. She just tries to ship him off on a bus. It's all very vague and unrealistic. Side note, the kid is carrying around a chicken like it's a kitten or a puppy for the whole movie. Never mind that chickens poop every 3 minutes and probably wouldn't tolerate all the carrying. But we're just supposed to believe the chicken is housetrained, doesn't need food or water, and wouldn't stink up everything within a 100 foot vicinity. My mom has backyard chickens. They stink. Besides all this stuff that would never happen in real life, the acting was pretty good and the scenery bleak but beautiful they just got a lot wrong about living life on the fringes of society, imo. The characters were flat with no dimension, which I get happens while living in survival mode, but come on this is a movie. Make the mom care about her kid at least a little. Give us something. ... show more

  • This is Porn
This is porn. I stopped it right away. Not even 5 minutes into the movie and there is a very graphic scene. I don't turn off movies because of sexual content, however, I will if the movie seems made to just be a container for porn. Since I do not plan to finish the movie I have no idea how many scenes there are like this but it probably explains the other bad reviews saying the movie doesn't have realistic characters or a good story line. That is usually the case when the movie is just to show porn scenes. ... show more

  • love the movies
Is slow paced indie drama with good cinematography and good acting. Good character development and really enjoyed watching it and will watch it again sometime. This is definitely indie drama genre so if you dont like these this may not be a movie for you.
