The tone and construction of this glockenspiel is good for a student. The carrying case is adequate but the tone of the instrument is quite good. My grankids love playing it, as one of them is playing it at their choral concert this Spring.

Great sound until I get to B above middle C. It is tight, so it doesn't "sing" like the other notes. I was hoping to use for the children's choir my wife conducts, but can't if that one note isn't working. I will be returning this product.

This tiny xylophone sounds a lot bigger than it is. The notes chime out very clearly across most of the scale. However, I had one note stuck. Plus, the size might be an issue for some. I was pleased when I first received and opened this. It comes in its own nylon carrying case with handles, which is great for such a portable xylophone. Upon striking a few notes, I was actually impressed with the overall open, airy, and loud tone of this xylophone. However, upon testing the xylophone more, I noted two problems. The high F does not ring out. It sounds muted, even flat. I jiggled the key around and noticed that the bottom part of the key was wedged tightly, and the little rubber washer underneath was stuck to it because of this. I could not quite get it to loosen. I will play around with it more to see if I can resolve this. The second issue depends on how good you are with your hands. The highest note, especially on the black keys, has a very narrow strikable surface because the pegs holding it on are pretty close, just barely larger than the mallet (see pic). If going fast, this could result in glancing off the peg. For full disclaimer, xylophone/percussion is definitely not my primary instrument. I just have it to add some character when looping. Overall, this xylophone will do excellent at that... so long as I don't need the high F and can avoid striking the pegs on the highest notes.

I'm extremely impressed with this Xylophone. It's not a toy, and the tuning and build quality is very good. My unit just has one problem which I've partially fixed and will continue to work on. The low F arrived with the felt pad stuck to it and as a result it makes a very staccato sound, where all the other notes ring out nicely. I was able to loosen the pad and get it to work about halfway but it's still not perfect. Aside from that, I'm very impressed at the overall tone and tuning of this Xylophone. Each key has been individually tuned by someone to be almost exactly on pitch, and that is quite impressive at this price point. The included mallets are ok, but you will probably want to get something a bit nicer if you plan to play this a lot. They are also quite loud, and a rubber mallet may help with that if you need to practice in a quieter environment. The instrument is louder than I expected for its size, it really rings out loudly and can be played with other orchestral instruments and percussion without amplification. I did want to mention that although the wood frame is very nice, it does come unfinished in bare wood. It's smooth but there's no stain on it, as it appears in the product photo. Not a problem for me, I like the plain look. Once I fix that stuck F key, this unit will be perfect and I continue to be impressed by the overall quality and look of it. Great for practice or performance, as long as all the keys are working fine. Comes in a soft zipper case which mainly just keeps dust off of it but does provide a bit of protection as well.

The sounds of angel kisses. That is what a little kid thought this xylophone sounded like. It comes pre-assembled meaning the bars are already laid out on it and both mallets were in the bag. I would have appreciated an extra set of mallets or higher quality mallets. The case is a little bit flimsy that is definitely an area that could be greatly improved upon. However, as an instrument it's so much fun!!! We could not stop playing the xylophone and the fabulous thing about it is during holidays and other occasions it will simply be out for people to enjoy for many years to come. The materials it is made from are sturdy so it is okay to really have a go at it. Just be aware of the mallet handles. Giftable???? I would say it depends on whether the case is improved or not as to whether one would want to gift this to another. You do have the option of purchasing another case elsewhere. However, I will say it again for the instrument to be so well made the case could have been better and the mallets could have been better.
