A very-good bag that could be better.
Color: Carbon Gray
About two weeks ago I submitted a similar review to this one on Think Tank’s web site for the PhotoCross 13 Backpack. I am really surprised that Think Tank did not post this; I did email Think Tank and was told that my review had been received and was being “reviewed”. I rated the bag four stars but was critical of three design choices. First is the cushioning on the straps. I had worn the bag to my local zoo with a Nikon Z6, a Nikkor 70-200 VRII f2.8 lens, a 70-300 Nikkor VR FX Zoom and a 24-70 Nikkor S lens in it. My first point of criticism was I was surprised that the straps became uncomfortable after an hour or so; I recalled my BackLight 18L that I wore for 6-hours previously at the Grand Canyon with no discomfort from the straps with more equipment in it. Z-Packs makes a nice supplemental strap pad that I have used before; I have ordered a pair to use on this backpack. My second point was the handle on the top of the backpack and on the side panel I felt should have been cushioned. I have bought neoprene Velcro cushioned handles designed for luggage to help with this. My third point, which was minor, was I thought the side panel opening of the backpack which has a single zipper would have been better if there were two zippers. Nothing major here, just this would be more convenient. I really like the bag as it's just the right size for many applications. I gave this criticism in the interest of making a future version better. I am a long-time Think Tank and BackLight user and think their products are top-notch. For reasons I do not know, Think Tank has not published it so I thought I would publish it here. ... show more

Mindshift Gear Totally Rocks!
Color: Orange Ember
Mindshift gear totally rocks! I do toy photography all the time and Mindshift is always there making sure my camera gear and toys are protected from the elements and from drops. I have the Mindshift PhotoCross 13, the Mindshift Trailscape 18L and now this Mindshift PhotoCross Backpack joins the collection. Now mind you I have gear in all these packs. When getting new gear I thought about using my old pack and combining gear and it just didn’t make sense. Mindshift bags are made so well and look new for years. I’m happy to add another. The PhotoCross design really adds functionality and convenience that I have not been able to find in any other bag. The extra thick rubber coated base gives this bag grip anywhere it’s placed. I love how the hole side zips open and allows access to many lenses and a camera too of course. I keep my iPad in the padded back slot for editing on the fly. Mindshift has really outdone themselves with this design and the price point is spot on for such a great bag. Thank you!!! ... show more

Fits all of my gear plus a 13" MacBook Air
Color: Orange Ember
I bought this backpack for hiking and because the Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2 in 20L is SO uncomfortable (I don't know why everyone raves about it!). I was pleasantly surprised that it fits my Fuji X-T4 with 50-140 2.8 attached! There is also room for the 16-55 28, 80 2.8 macro, 23 1.4 and 56 1.2. Not only does all of that equipment fit, but my 13" MacBook Air M1 fits with room to spare in the laptop compartment. Fully loaded this is much more comfortable than the Peak Design backpack with just one camera body and extra lens. I can see needing the waist belt while hiking but not necessary while just carrying a few items around town, so I love that it's removable. The water bottle holder is plenty big and the straps that are included are perfect for strapping a tripod to the front of the bag. The only thing that would make this bag better is if it had a spot for a hydration bladder while hiking, but I can live without that since that water bottle holder is great. I'm very happy with this purchase! ... show more

Quality backpack but tight shoulder straps
Color: Orange Ember
This is my second Mindshift backpack, I really like the first one I bought the BackLight 36L and use it often. I purchased the PhotoCross Backback as a carry-on bag for future flights but found it to be uncomfortable to wear, the shoulder straps were too tight and constricting (I'm 5'8", 150 lbs) and there wasn't much room for storage. However the zippers, fabric and construction were very high quality. ... show more

Needs improvement
Color: Orange Ember
I bought this to carry some m43 gear. It does that. But I've only used it once since I bought it. It was discounted. There are some problems I have which may be a showstopper for some: - The laptop pocket is too small to hold a 13" HP laptop in its protective sleeve, even when there is no gear inside. Some say it can, but I've tried. It doesn't fit. - the side-access zipper is a one-way zipper, which is a pain. What's ridiculous is that a small pouch inside has a two-way zipper. Why does a shorter zipper have a two-way and the longer zipper does not? - straps are skimpy. Not a problem if you wear a sweatshirt but it will be uncomfortable if you wear a t-shirt or windbreaker. -The waist strap is bulky. Not sure why. I have never used it. I really wanted a side-access bag to carry a large telephoto lens (Olympus 100-400) and body (EM1.2) and there weren't many choices. I prefer a backpack instead of a sling because you can develop a permanent neck/back injury from carrying too much weight on one side of your body. I don't think this bag would be good for any substantial travel beyond a short walk. The ordering and delivery was fine. I'm pleased it was not delivered by FedEx or UPS. I also have a Mindshift Ultralight which is a great backpack. Unfortunately, it can't carry a body and long lens combined. So, I use it and don't put the body and lens together. The Photocross stays at home in a box most of the time. ... show more

A very good backpack
Color: Orange Ember
A very good backpack, but is slightly smaller than expected. Well made and very good concept.

Great small backpack
Color: Orange Ember
As with all Mindshift products quality is top notch. This is my favorite small camera backpack. I saw small, but this bag can still carry a 100-400, a Sony a7rIV and 24-105 lens plus another lens like a 15-35 comfortably. I have been using it extensively and this pack has become my primary pack.
